Excellent results today with CCI SV, 50 yards benched, calm, Anschutz 1710D, 15X scope, 10 5X groups. Average all groups, center-to-center, about 0.45". Only one group, the last one (of course) has a flyer. Have not had this consistency with SV in the past. A RWS R50 target had almost identical results.
Ordered a case of CCI SV and shot over chronograph after initial group testing. Ave 1107.4 fps, ES 17 fps out of my RPR RF. Explains to me why it shoots as well as it does.
If that was for 50 shots, you've found "magic" rimfire ammo!
Hard to find, wildly sought after, worth exorbitant amounts of cash.
If it was for 5 or 10 shots, well, not even CCI can get it wrong all the time.
When chronying ammo, I look for sample sizes of 50 to 100 shots measured.
That's me, y'er opinion may differ.
That ES of 17 fps was for 25 shots that I had left in one box. I felt that was sufficient but I just may do it again to verify. Never know what may turn up in another box or rifle. Will have to wait a bit a it is going to rain the next 4-5 days.
Rain finally quit and I went to range for some sight verification.
As mentioned in last post, I would chrono more of the CCI SV I had purchased. I shot another 25 rounds over the screens and it was very similar to the 25 rounds I shot the other day.
Average was 1106 fps and ES was 18 fps. Guess I was holding the rifle just a tad bit looser today overall. The first 10 only had an ES of 8 fps but then I got really interested and tried to keep it going and boosted the ES up to 18 fps with the next shot and a couple others a bit later in the string.
So I now have 50 readings of this case of ammo. Averaging the two 25 shot samples, 1106.7 fps and ES 18fps. Works for me, the remainder will be shot at targets both paper and steel with full knowledge the misses will be me or conditions.
Last two boxes of CCI SV, 50 shots each, chronied 73 and 89 fps ES.
Horrible vertical spread on target due to the ES.
My two boxes of Lapua X-Act at 25 bucks a box, chronied 34 and 32 fps ES.
Just received another case of CCI SV as the price was very good. Out to the range with this new lot and chronograph. This lot chrono's slower at 1067 fps and has a ES a bit higher at 21 fps. The spread might have been me, but I doubt it.
Shot a couple groups at 100 yds after the 50 rounds over the chrono at 50 yds on paper shooting groups. Required 3 more 1/4" clicks than previous lot to be dead on. I expected such as it is slower. Conditions were not the best, but still shot right at 3/4" for 2 10 shot groups.
I'll save the remainder of the first lot for NRL 22 and "serious" group shooting and use the new lot for general practice. I still need to give the new lot a good work out under better conditions to see just how well it will group out of my rifles. It does appear to be promising.

Extreme spread of 21 FPS out of CCI std?? Really? What sample size are we talking about here? That is an unheard of ES for CCI std. If you don't mind, WHAT is that lot number, and where did you purchase it?

What would be considered an absolute ROCK STAR, ES for 22LR? As in those of you who spend time tracking it, what is common ES for an exceptional lot?
I am just curious. I own a chrono and have used it a bunch on CF. I of course read these threads with great interest, but dont get into the finer points of "extreme"accuracy anymore.

Based on jaia's testing, an ES of under 40 is good and anything under 30 is exceptional.
Test group needs to be 30-50 rounds to produce valid results.
