At the LGS is a Winchester 52D Serial 122026D

Price on the tag is $999.99 with 10% off store special.

Wood is pretty good, a couple of dings but in good shape.

Blueing is questionable. It is not the deep blue of my Winchester 52C Roy Dunlap (or maybe Wayne Schwartz), appears that it had a good condensation and the rust sheen was oil rubbed off.

Barrel measures 1.046 at the receiver so I guess it is not a bull barrel?

Let me know guys!

more information

Sights are Redfield olympic and the crown looks good. flush with bare metal, not countersunk. nice star pattern on muzzle and the inside of the barrel as good as I could see is pretty shiny. Thinking about purchasing, is this a good buy?

Hard to find one much cheaper with sights/bases in decent shape. It just depends on how badly you want/need it.

That would be a D/E "heavy" barrel - the Ds and Es did not have a bull/extra-heavy barrel.

Looks like a nice example to me. At $999 -10% around $900 + tax with front and rear sights? A late D -within 800 of my 52E. I would give it a shot if I wanted one. But that's just me.

A $1000 today is kinda like $500 in 2000, whats not to like about that?

Looks like a clean commercial (no rear sling swivel) 52D.

Wear on the bolt handle suggests that it has been used but not abused.

The 52D's don't have the same rich blue on the barrels as do the 52C's.

With sights its probably within the "realm of reason" for 2018.

Your saying that the blue on the D's are not as good as the blueing on the C's?

That had me worried that it had been left out a couple nights in the dew and condensation. Anybody that can confirm that? Might have to take a drive with a bright light and magnifying glass and bore scope to take another look.

Based on pictures, blue is correct and look's very good to me. Most C heavy weights had rust blued barrels. This continued until 1960. A rust blued barrel is not near as dark as the conventional hot process used after 1960.
