"H & R manufactured by Rossi, Brazil", 1946 (V) Verified the name and model but not the date. see RFC post 5008275 post 15 where another member talks about his H&R with a 1946 date.

Can I glean, from this portion of your post, that you have verified the names H&R and Rossi, plus the model 749, but haven't yet found evidence of the G serial # starting in 1946? I have not verified that date and I don't believe they were produced by Rossi until 1968-69.

I was told by the Rossi rep that fielded my phone call that the G in front of the serial # indicated a gun made in 1946. However, as I googled this information, I found websites containing Rossi serial #s that had a different letter designation in front of the serial #s almost every year, for instance 1945 'F', 1946 'G', 1947 'H', 1948 'I'. I'm confused by this. These websites did not provide model #s of the individual firearms, but only what years they used the letter prefix. Could they be saying that new models were assigned a letter, serial # designation in the first year the gun was manufactured? And then kept the same letter prefix serial # throughout it's manufacture? In spite of the information I've been able to gather, I'm still at a loss, as far as what year my own carbine may have been manufactured. I hope that my questions aren't confusing things even further.
Also check post 2415406 for more info. It confirms some of the other importer. I verified the importers and years by looking in old gun catalogs from those years and found listings for the Rossi model.

As I said earlier I am not an expert on these.
