Question Colt Woodsman Match Target

Log in to see fewer ads
I just looked at a real nice Colt Woodsman Match Target at a store here in Las Vegas. It's on consignment and is selling for $749. It looks to be about 95% overall and is very nice. I don't know if the had different barrel lengths but this one looks to be about 5.5-6" Any input from the knowledgeable Colt fans as to whether or not it's a decent buy? I don't know the SN. I didn't ask if box and papers were included.

Hey Chuckles,
According to my book, here's some prices:

In 95% condition

Woodsman Match Target - first series- mfg. 1938-1944 =$995

" " " - 2nd series- mfg. 1950-1955 =$595

" " " - 3rd series - mfg. 1955-1960 =$495

Hope this helps.

"blue book" type guides are Ok, but seeing what they are actually selling for on auction sites and such is a better indicator of current market value, IMHO.

I have one, 3rd series, 6" bbl, I really like it.

Thanks guys for your help. I am guessing but it probably is a 3rd series model. Real nice but $749.00 is a bit steep. If it's like everything else I pass up, it's something I'll regret for many years. I have a peculiar knack for doing that with nice firearms! Someone will probably get a nice pistol, not a cheap pistol but a nice Colt. I have a S&W 41 HB so I'll probably make do with that. Thanks again.

I have a 3d model WMT and although it's a great gun, the price you quote is way too high, in my opinion.

chuckles,

I've got a 3rd gen Colt Match Target like carcajou's picture. Also have a S&W M-41 HB like yours. The S&W goes to the range almost every time I go & the Colt stays in the safe. If I had to pick which to keep if I had to sell one, it's no contest - the Colt would have to go. Not that the Colt isn't an excellent pistol - it certainly is - but the M-41 just feels better in my hand.

My opinion & I'm sure there are plenty of Colt fans that will disagree.

I just added a Colt Woodsman 4 1/2" MT to my collection. I have yet to take it out yet but it sure feels nice in my hand. I too typically shoot a S&W Model 41 with a 5 or 7 1/2" barrel. The 7 1/2" barrel has a dot sight on it and is awesome on rabbits, running or still. I also got a first Model in pretty good shape but would like to locate another magazine or two if I can.

Hi, Pat,
I have at least one and probably 2 extra original 1st model Woodsman magazines in excellent condition that I can sell, if you need them. If you are interested, feel free to email me directly at [email protected].
Hope this helps,
John

Silver Item

The silver item in the picture is a watch fob for a pocket watch.
