Just acquired a Colt Ace. Any Tips or Comments about this gun? Where can I get magazines?

Lightbulb Colt Ace Magazines

L7 Doc,

Welcome to RFC.....! !

After hunting gun show after gun show for four or five years, I finally found 'original' "Colt" marked .22 Ace [.45 ACP/.22 LR Conversion Unit] magazines at ammoclip.com - .22 Ace...! !

Colt ACE Conversion .22LR @ $38.00

They are not cheap, but, they are 'original' "Colt" marked magazines....! ! I believe I paid $42. for the magazine, and some $3.50 S&H; it arrived three days later exactly as advertised...! ! It matched my 'original' "Colt" magazine exactly, including the size and placement of the spot welds...! !

Hope this helps...! !

Keep the floating chamber clean as well as the barrel recess. Most folks clean after 75 - 100 rds. A constant diet of Hi Vel ammo may break the chamber tab. Get a spare or two from GunPartsCo.

Might not be a bad idea to stock up on mags. I flat wore one out! Floorplate broke. The tab on the aluminum follower that activates the slide stop wore down to where it doesn't work anymore. And the spring lost a good bit of its spring, despite the fact that I never left it compressed for longer than it took to stuff the mag in the gun and shoot it off. I stretched it back out, and it kinda works now, but I still had to get a whole new mag.

If anyone knows where I could get a new mag spring, I'm all ears. Wolff does not list them, nor does Numrich, nor does Colt.
