X-22 Backpacker Optic Mount Question

Log in to see fewer ads
Has anyone mounted a Magpul X-22 Backpacker Optic Mount using the factory Ruger takedown forend? I know the factory forend will have to be modified to fit the X-22 mount.

I'd love to see pictures of the finished product and what steps were taken to make the mount work with the factory forend. Thanks for any info you have.

I did...posted about it at ARFCOM.

Dremel did the trick, took less than 30 minutes with the sanding drum.

OK, first thing first. The height of the B pillars need to match the height of the A support.

Then, use the sanding drum to just take some of the sidewall out, a little at a time.
Here it is with one side done.

Once you remove the material, the wall thickness of the hand guard will end up being about about .05" (1mm). It's more or less "by feel"...when you think you are getting close, just keep dry fitting the mount into the hand guard...sand more off accordingly. Be careful with the dremel...you can't put material back!

About 30 minutes later....done and done.

It may not be the cleanest looking inside, but it looks perfect on the outside.

Copper Tactical adapters came back into stock today, so I'll have an SB Tactical PDW brace on there next week. Should be a fun little setup.

It turned out pretty nice. I'm not in love with the SB PDW brace, but it works for now. I'm still looking for that perfect folding brace setup...
