I have a Contender which is chamber in 6.5 JDJ, I haven't shot it a good 30 yrs. I want to get a new barrel for it I'm a 22lr so I don't have reload and its cheap, but what can I expect for accuracy out to 100 yards? I remember getting about 1" groups with the 6.6 JDJ but that was center fire.

That would be a good question to ask of the two premier makers of Contender barrels, Match Grade Machine, and Bullberry.

I have a 10 match barrel on my contender that I shoot in Hunters pistol silhouette. I bought this barrel over 12 yrs ago. It has a 4 x 10 simmons rifle scope on it. With CCI SV or Wolf match it will shoot dime size groups at 50 meters. Being match grade barrel it won't even chamber anything made by Winchester.

I have a ss Super 14 barrel in 22lr for my G2 Contender. It'll do 1/2 MOA from a rest at 50 yards. Barrel accuracy is excellent in most of these Contenders.

Grips

Where does one find nice wood grips for the contender something nicer than stock?

wood is from high plains gun stocks
caliber is 22lr in answer to OP as far as accuracy of contender barrel in 22lr
this pistol out shoots my $2000 custom Anschutz silhouette rifle at least in my hands or maybe I just have not found the ammo it likes yet

TC .22 lr at 100 yards

Had a couple, stock and custom barrels, and saw a whole bunch during my International Handgun Metallic Silhouette Association (IHMSA) career of 30 years.

I have never seen a T/C contender in .22 lr that was a consistent true MOA gun at 100 yards.

Seen a few 5 round groups that made that but they were exceptions not the rule.

IME, even with custom barrels I would say that the repeatable mechanical accuracy potential with ammo that it "likes" would be in the 2"-2.5" area for 5 rounds at 100 yards.

To achieve that, ie: practical accuracy, takes a lot of practice and the ability to overcome the inherent "challenges" of shooting a firearm that has a exposed hammer. Lock time is a lot slower then say the Anschutz Exemplars which are bolt action guns and the subconscious loss of concentration from "feeling" the hammer fall and feeling or hearing the firing pin strike is tough to overcome.

They are fairly sensitive cold bore weapons.

Again, IME, the IHMSA International Class shooters regularly shot 4" groups spread over 10 targets per string at 100 yards under a variety of conditions.

I achieved that rating and I figured that I could do that pretty consistently and on some days get close to 3" at 100.

On 3 dimensional targets such as soda cans and the like, which are generally easier to hit then shooting small groups on paper, if your are "on" and the atmospheric conditions are not too challenging you could hit close enough to move almost all of em (dirt splash) and probably actually hit 7 of 10.

I have my own ranges and that is about what we can do on my 110 meter range.

I have not gotten real real consistent as of yet. Biggest problem is my eye's and only using a 7 power scope. I was shooting at 60 yards today just really sighting in the scope, I also was not using bags, just a Bi-Pod. Like I said my problem is just seeing the small targets at 60 yards. Here is the best of the day's targets though. CCI SV 22LR. 14" factory Barrel on a Contender.

Group size

Is it safe to assume that the coin you show is a commemorative quarter?

If so then is it safe to assume that the diameter is 3/4"?

Just trying to finger out what your groups sizes were.

noremf,
It is a quarter. I blew the picture up a little to big. When I started to sight the scope in I was approx. 6" high and 6" to the left. This group is a 6 round group that was shot three rounds at a time. I shot 3 rounds walked and checked it then shot the other three rounds.
I have a new rear grip coming and my sand bags, that I will probably use next time. But my biggest problem is the scope is not real strong enough for my eye sight. I will definitely find me a stronger scope for it. Those quarter size targets are just plain hard to see for me at 60 yards.
