Winchester 1993 Catalog

In its 1993 Catalog, Winchester reintroduced what it called the “modern versions of three of the most historic Winchester firearms.” One of these firearms was the Winchester Model 52B Sporting. RFC User AZ Abert correctly noted the Winchester Model 52B shown in the Catalog had a “Browning style S/N.” However, it appears from the information collected in this Thread, the rifle pictured in the 1993 Catalog not only has a “Browning style serial number”, but, is in fact a Browning Model 52.

When examined with a magnifying lens, the serial number of the rifle in the catalog appears to be 00008NZ496. From the Browning Serial Numbers collected in this Thread and in other Posts on RFC, this number is clearly a Browning Serial Number and not a Winchester Serial Number. Further proof this number is a Browning Serial Number is the fact that there are two other documented Winchester Model 52Bs with serial numbers WBS0007 and WBS0009. Clearly the serial number on the rifle pictured in the Winchester 1993 catalog does not “fit” within this Winchester serial number sequence.

I do not know whether this information is “new”, of any value to this Thread, or even if it is of any interest to Model 52 owners? I suppose there are numerous questions that could be asked regarding Winchester’s decision to use a Browning Model 52 in its catalog instead of a Winchester Model 52. However, since the focus of this Thread is “Serial Numbers”, I wonder if there is an RFC member out there who has the Browning pictured in the 1993 Winchester Catalog?

Browning in a Winchester '93 Catalog

Interesting information. I wonder if the picture in the '93 catalog shows the rifle with a "B" or a "C" style stock??? I think I have a '93 catalog around here somewhere, I'll have to look for it.

It's not serial number 8 but Browning SN 9 was recently on GB. It was part of an 18-gun set of "same serial number" Browning/Winchesters.

While we're looking at serial numbers:
The 10NP80XXXX serial numbers seem to have started with the Fajens then had some pencil barrels and then were followed by the Zanders HBs. This one on GB has the highest serial number in the 10NP family that is for the pencil barrels that I have seen:

It looks like 10NP8001355 to me but I'm not certain. Can anyone confirm or correct that?

Does anyone have a Fajen with a serial number higher than 333?
Does anyone have a pencil barrel with a 10NP80XXXX serial number lower than 0479?
Does anyone have a Zanders HB with a 10NP80XXXX serial number lower than 1549?
Does anyone have a Zanders HB with a 10NP80XXXX serial number higher than 1987?

It's actually 10NP801355 one less zero. That means the serial number is actually 1355.

I can check mine & post later...

It is at the summer house and I will get there middle of May. I am posting here so I get included on other posts and it will help me to remember to do so. It is a Winchester, but that is about all I can recall. Later.

five_0,

Is yours a Fajen stock or regular pencil barrel?

If it's a regular pencil barrel, could it be 10NR instead of 10NP?

I looked again and it is 10NR and not 10NP.

By the late 1990s the Win 52s had switched to the Browning-style serial numbering scheme.
The 10NR rifles are from 1997. The 10NP rifles are from 1998.
