This one is an HB and it does look like it is the gloss finish. It is too ragged for a collection; but would make a decent shooter. I would not pay more than $675.00 for it if you just want a shooter. That's just my opinion; and I have been known to be picky and overpay!!!!
That is the one.

I am interested in it as a hunting rifle, and would either refinish or restock it at some point. In my opinion that is the most beautiful and useful 52 action available, having both a grooved receiver and the 'round top" with smalerl dovetail. Also, since it is a re-issue it doesn't hurt my feelings quite as bad to use it as a project base.

Thanks for the confirmation of value, I was thinking no more than 700$, but then again I loose far more GB auctions than I win

I just picked up a Browning this morning at a gun show. It is new, unfired, in the box with all paperwork, and the original factory shipping carton. It has the standard pencil barrel, satin finish, serial # 03839NZ496. It's an absolutely beautiful rifle........ I'm a happy camper!

Here's the end box label for my "Zanders" Winchester heavy barrel:

Here's the labels from the bottom of the box:

Despite what the bottom label says, the barrel is the same length as the Browning 52: 24" from chamber-face to muzzle.

Interesting. From the end of the box it appears to just be a std 24" barrel. Only the bottom label shows it as a 23" HB.

I have two.

Both are Winchesters, one is serial number 10 NR802XXX, with the standard barrel, bought it used, about six years ago. I will have to hunt the other one up....

Second Winchester 52 repro

The second Winchester repro is Serial number BS15XX, standard barrel. Both have the front screw in the middle diamond of the fore end. It has a fake rosewood tip. The other has the fake ebony tip. The trigger on the first rifle has had the insurance pin pulled, and breaks clean about 1.25 lbs.

That is part of what we are trying to figure out with this thread.
The Brownings came first - 1991.
We don't know if the Winchester-marked Standard Barrel 52s with the "WBS" serial numbers or the "BS" serial numbers came next.

For those that use the Browning numbering scheme (Copied from another post here on RFC):
"The actual "1-up" serial number of the gun is in the first digits, the two letters indicate the last 2 digits of the year and the final digits are the product code. This is from the Matt Eastman Browning book, and the Browning forum has a breakout of the year codes. They apply to all Japanese made Brownings (according to the book).
Letters work like this, Z=1, Y=2, X=3, W=4, V=5, T=6, R=7, P=8, N=9, M=0 "

NZ = 1991 (The Browning 52s)
NR = 1997; 10NR80XXXX; some Standard Barrels
NP = 1998; 10NP80XXXX; some Standard Barrels, the Fajens, the Zanders Heavy Barrels
