I am a great fan of the 541S but right now I don't have one. I bought one this year and it wasn't really up to snuff so I sold it. Now I'm looking for another. I see them quite often but I won't give a grand for one, they're nice but not that nice. I expect to spend around $5-$600. Any more than that and I'd just buy one of those "custom shop" remingtons or a 40X.

I have a left hand 541-S in a std. walnut stock,

I use it for a pest control 22 around my shop... I like it because it's VERY accurate anbd has a super trigger! I don't like it because all you can get is the plastic magazines that get old and fail...

I'm still waiting for someone to make some drop in steel replacement magazines!!!

I have one and it was my first real great squirrel rifle. It developed a misfiring problem and was sent back to Remington. They replaced the barrel and action and sent it back. I noticed they had made some design changes to the front of the bolt/extractor area. I have killed a truck load of squirrels with mine and as I said it was my favorite until I acquired an Anschutz 54 sporter. TTT

Here is a picture of the S along with my current favorite squirrel rifle-upgraded Ruger 10-22.

I am a great fan of the 541-S rimfires.
Usually have 2-3 on hand, but only one at present.
It is a true tackdriver, and It sits right between my 541-T Sporter and my Winchester Model 52C Sporter.
While it won't shoot with my 40X, It is good enough to have brought me a 100M sporter-weight benchrest trophy.
I have never had any problems with the plastic magazines, and a couple of mine have mega rounds through them.
Regards, Eagleye.

I still have a 541-S, purchased new in March, 1984, for $285, date of manu of late 1982. Had it glass bedded and some stock work done to tone down the RKW bowling ball finish. Put a 10X Bushnell Banner AO on it to shoot silhouettes. Glad it was never sold, fueled my interest in high grade 22 bolts.

I have one, my father gave it to me in 1976 for an 8th grade graduation present. Still have it and it is still a sweet rifle, need better glass on mine but overall I think I will keep this one for another 30 plus years.

I have three.....

Of the three one is a custom with a stainless barrel, custom trigger guard, custom bolt handle, jeweled bolt, worked trigger, magazine well altered to take an altered Winchester 52 magazine, one is dead stock, and one has had a second action screw added by Remington, back in the days Remington customer service. They all shoot very well, but the old original is the butt kicker....One hole groups are the norm, I have a dozen same hole..... .18 or less groups with this rifle and good ammo at fifty.

The only rifle I have that is not for sale while I am breathing....
