I know nothing about russian rifles except I do own a toz. Its a pretty accurate gun but does not compare to my cz. I was in a gun shop today talking to one of the salesmen and he asked me if I ever thought buying a russian gun. He showed me a couple with a straight pull bolt, it was pretty neat and he said they were accurate. As I have been checking out the posts, I see alot of bench rest style guns. What Iam looking for is more of a sporter stock, and accurate. I would mainly shoot targets but some squirrel hunting. But I do want something that will shoot as good or better as my cz 452. Any suggestions? Something that known to shoot good at 50yds or so. what models have sporter style stocks? Sorry for asking a question that you all probably already answered a thousand times.
If your TOZ-78 is not shooting as well as your CZ, perhaps you should follow
_some basic procedures to extract the maximum accuracy potential from your rifle.
Ammunition selection ... try a variety of ammunition
_and do not exclude standard velocity selections - do not avoid milder ammo ... try it.
Check your rifle's bedding ... make sure the action is secure and barrel is free floating.

I's also take a look at the Sobol Carbine if you are more intersted in a light sporter.

whats the difference between the sobol and the BI 7-2 basic? I see the stock is alittle different and I guess the sobol is a bit lighter. Any thing elsa?
whats the difference between the sobol and the BI 7-2 basic...?
The Sobol rifle has a lighter barrel with magazine storage in the sporter styled stock.
The receiver of the Sobol rifle is grooved for telescopic sights.
The Biathlon Basic has a heavy barrel with a weaver rail and straight stock.
The BI-7-2KO at 7.7 pounds weighs about a pound more than the Sobol.

Are you sure about that weight? My Biathlon Basic with a Mueller APV is just a hair under 7.5 pounds. That's the weight limit for Sporterifle, and I've weighed it over and over again.
OMG.....my BB better start taking Slim-Fast. Mine weighs in at 8.25lbs ready for hunting..LOL BSA 2-7X32MM & barrel dia. is .75"
Thats the way I like my hunting rifles...7-9lbs.

ok I see one sobol on gunbroker and no 7-2's, I was just looking for a price reference. I think the sobol would probably be best for me, do they both have match chambers? what's about the average cost for these rifles?
toivo ... thanks for pointing-out this discrepancy - aom22.
I'm embarrassed that I didn't notice this myself.

Don't be embarrassed, aom22--it was their mistake, not yours. You provide a lot of valuable information on here.
midwest swiss, you've got some serious high-comb action going on with that stock, not to mention the extra-long rail. Not to mention sling swivels and a leather sling. None of those things are made of feathers! There's your weight-gain right there.
Test Targets: Average of three, five-shot groups at 50 meters - 13.3mm (.524 inches)
1st Group: 16.5mm (.650 in) 2nd Group: 8.5mm (.335 in) 3rd Group: 15mm (.591 in)

As far as I know all the Russian built .22Lr rifles have match chambers even the Toz 78.
I paid $320 for my BB 7-2KO in 05.
