Looked online at the sales fliers for a few stores and didn't see them listed. What store were you at?

Well, the next time you get up there, give me a call and we'll meet at the Wildlife range in Woodworth. Bring your T/C and plenty of ammo.

Yep, I can confirm this. I bought my R-55 classic at Bass Pro in Houston (Katy) just before the end of the year for $279 minus 5% for a small scuff on the buttplate. So, $265 plus tax, minus a credit for the return of a cheap Chinese aluminum gun case I got for Christmas and I was only out of pocket $201 OTD.

I didn't see a benchmark or I would have bought it instead. Glad they didn't have one because the classic is no slouch and fits my needs much better than a bench gun would have. Love the walnut, really deep blueing, good quality sights, barrel threaded into receiver, target crown. This is how they should be made. I have had zero jams from mine in 350 or so rounds so far.

The model being dropped by a big chain does not bode well for the continued production of the R-55. If a big chain like this is clearing them out and dropping them, I would say the model is in trouble. What do I know though? One thing is sure, buy em now, especially at that price!

I've been saving for a new or 2 22lr guns...if I can find one (I have 2 BassPros about an 1:20 from me in 2 different directions), I'm buying it this weekend. It's about $75 outside of what I was looking at, but I've been looking at a stainless Marlin (like a lot), older Remington tube feds, or 2 older Marlin tube feds - just never have cared for a magazine in a 22lr (goofy that way).

BUT! if I can get a r55 for $279 plus tax, I believe they are classics and will be revered in the same way as some of the older Remingtons and Winchesters because of their deep blue and walnut as well as threaded barrels 20 years from now.

That's a great price for NIB!

I can confirm they are on clearance for $279

I just finished having ordered one coming from a different store, a benchmark for $279...I was going to get a savage thumbhole stock but i like Thompson Center and the customer service i get when i have had questions or issues in the past with their blackpowder firearms has been spectacular...
