"Rigger Ammo" 1/4" challenge

Ok, I guess that I will get the ball rolling for this, there seems to be a good bit of interest in having a less expensive game to play. The premise is simple, a game to play where you don't have to burn up your $$ ammo and can have some more fun "tuning" your SuperStock rifles.

The rules are similiar to the original:

Distance-25 yds

4 groups, one target

4 shots per group and four measuring shots

The AVERAGE of all four groups has to be equal to or less than .250"

Now this all looks really familiar so far, but here is the curve-ball. All attempts MUST be shot using "Bulk Grade" ammo. The whole idea here is to see how good we can get the less expensive ammunitions to shoot. Who knows, you may end up finding a bulk-pack brand and setup that allows you to shoot teeny-tiny groups without having to spend a fortune on ammo (at least that is what we are all hoping will happen)

The following is a list of "Less expensive" (ok, some of them are plain cheap) ammunitions that are the design basis of this challenge.

Aguila anything
CCI Blazer
Eley sport
Fed AE5022
Fed 510
Fed 710, 712, 714, 745, etc...
Fed AE22
Fed AutoMatch
Fiocchi FC22rn
Fiocchi 22HVCRN
PMC Zappers
Rem Sub Sonic
Rem Bulk (Golden Bullets, etc...)
Win. Dynapoints
Win. Experts
Win. WildCat
Win. 333

Looking through the list, you can see the pattern. We are after the less expensive and oftentime "Bulk Pack" style ammunitions. If you have a favorite cheap ammo, and it isn't listed above, bring it up! We can always discuss it and possibly add it to the lists. Just remember, a good guide would be the cheaper the better, and most definately nothing from the Wolf/SK+ level and up.

Scoring will of course still be on the "Honor System". Measure your target, and post it in this thread. It would also be nice to post a picture of and a run-down on the SuperStock rifle that you used to shoot your target. MOST IMPORTANT: We all want to know what ammo you used to shoot your target, and if your target qualifies, it would be great if you shared you set-up for others to try out (torques, bedding, etc)!

I am looking forward to seeing the "Good, Bad, and Ugly". I am also interested to see what ammos can get into the club. I know that all of the ammo we will be using is "cheap", but I want to encourage people to try to tune their rifles to a few different ammo's, and to try as many types as they can find, not just grab the Automatch etc.

Good luck to us all, we are following in your footsteps Rigrat!!

JJ

ENTRY CLARIFICATION

To keep in the spirit of the shooter looking for good cheap ammo, it has been decided that a single receiver may be entered multiple times into this game. To qualify as an additional entry for that receiver, subsequent target must be shot with different ammunitions that still qualify under the "Bulk" guidlines. This change is to encourage as many persons to continue trying to figure out all of the inexpensive ammo's that will shoot well in their rifles, and so that persons with only one Superstock rifle can continue participating in this group even if they already have an entry. I hope that this will give incentive to all of you to try as many of the less expensive ammo's as possible, and should also serve as a learning experience for some of us on how to tune our rifles to different ammunitions.

good job JJ, and thanks for getting it going,

rigger is gonna be "tickled" when he sees this game,

this "new" game should attract a lot of shooters as we all have some "rigger"
ammo laying around.

rico....

That was one of the things that I was thinking about when I was typing it up this morning, that it is the perfect opportunity for the hardcore supporters of some of the "questionable" ammo's to prove that those ammo's do have merit, even if it is only in their rifles.

Looking forward to your results Swabby!

Game looks like fun and a good ammo list as well - What about Fed 714 ammo? Will it be allowed to play?

Is the 714 a hollowpoint variant kind of like the 712? I think that it has gone under different numbers, 712,714,715. I think that it would be allowable, unless someone can point something out about it that would set it apart as a higher grade ammunition.

Think I'll have a run at this tomorrow or Sunday. I've got some AE-22, Automatch, Aguila SE HV, and Eley Sport on hand for just such an occasion.

Looks just like 510 including the blue box but is labled as "Target" - The Fed 714 is sold only by Dick's Sporting Goods or at least that is the only place I've ever found it. Used to sell for $16 per brick but bought a brick last month and it had go up to $20. Just like each of the ones on your list, ammo just keeps going up!!!

Here is a thread over in the ammo section about it: https://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums...d.php?t=222255

just went back to page 1,

and noticed that the 4 groups are to be an avg of <.250 which gives a bit of leeway using these types of ammo, as there seems to always be a "flyer" for me, lol, and is about the only thing i can count on with this ammo, haha,

danged wind, go away,

rico....wants to play....

I actually thought about taking it to a four group average of .3", but figured that after seeing some of your and Riggers results with some of the ammo's on the list that I would leave it at .250"

you may have to do that anyway, LOL, this type of ammo shoot-out aint
gonna be that easy. but, yea, lv it as is. should prove inneresting.

most here have their sporters already tuned in for a few types of ammo,
but the way "some" here keep taking things apart, the "magic" combo is
quickly lost and needs to be started over again. hence the need for a lot
of "rigger" ammo, for me anyway. but i still enjoy every pull of the trigger,
and the lab time,

rico....
