Well I finally got around to buying a Ruger American Rimfire! Two of them actually...both for other people. LOL! My two nephews made a trip to the range with me a few weeks back and loved shooting! They're each getting an 8351 for xmas this year. Now I have to find decent scopes to put on them (fingers crossed for good Black Friday deals!!). I hope to pick the guns up tomorrow and am excited to see how they perform! I've never fired one personally, but I've heard a lot of good reviews on them.

Thanks for the input and info! I'll take a look at the Vortex! I've never had one but I hear good things. I was thinking on the Nikon Prostaff II, so I'll compare them and see which one comes out on top.

I've had one of those Diamondbacks for a couple of years and really like it. It was on my PWS Summit but is now on my RPR .22. Compact and clear and the Vortex warranty is good.

Price range and magnification?

I am loving my 3-18 Vortex SE (I think you can pick them up for 299 at Europic)

It is a SFP (Wish it were FFP) but also lots of guys are loving the Vortex 4-16 Diamondback Tactical FFP.

I've had 1-4's, 1-6's, 2-8's, 2.5-10, 3-9, 3-12, 3-18, 4-14, 4-16, 4.45-27 scopes on my rimfires and depending on what you want to do will help out with the scope choice.

Right now my boys RPRr wears a 3-12 vortex Diamondback HP and it is a good scope that is light but I wish it had the SE reticle for more precise shots on paper. Hunting wise it is a good scope just a little heavy in the cross hairs and the BDC isn't worth a hoot on the 22lr

My kids had great luck shooting my 10/22 with a 1-4 scope (Trijicon) because it was forgiving on head placement and eye relief and they shot it well.

Also take a look at Cameralandny during black Friday or give them a call. They have some sweet deals on Athlon scopes that might work (2.5-15 Midas scopes were on sale).
