New member with new 457 MTR
Hello, after finding the forum and reading for awhile I recently decided to get the 457 MTR. I had been shooting my ar15 with Beyer Barrel 22lr upper in local matches but wanted a bolt action. Decided on the MTR after reading all the threads here. I would like to say that mine came in about 2 weeks ago. I went through it after immediately removing the barrel and having it threaded for my suppressor. While it was at the LGS being threaded I took apart the trigger and added a yodave spring and minor adjustment. Have a nice 12 oz trigger. Left a little play in the takeup and overtravel for now. Very satisfied after shooting it today for the first time. I also had taken apart the bolt and polished the firing pin although it was smooth anyway. After I put the barrel back on I was running some rounds through it and noticed how hard the bolt was to close. It pushes the lead bullet into the rifling and required a lot of forward presssure to close the bolt. I did some minor rounding of the bolt where it first starts to close and removed a small sharp edge on the receiver in the same place. Allows the bolt to start closing while applying forward pressure. Big difference in my gun anyway. Then made a extended bolt handle which really made the force required much less. Anyway after shooting about a hundred rounds today I was quite happy with the preliminary results (50 yds). Have many boxes of quality ammo I hope to test out soon to fine what it likes to eat. Thanks to all for this fine forum which helped me out in all aspects.
