Interesting pre war model 37 and a question

I recently acquired Remington model 37 serial #00900. The original date code of

OF July 37. The rifle has a second date code of BK Jan. 41. It appears the rifle

was returned to Remington and updated to the model 1940 configuration. It has;

the 1940 style stock serial numbered to the rifle, a miracle trigger, and the hole in

the receiver floor to remove the bolt. It has a rear sight base for a Marbles Goss

receiver sight. The front sight base has been changed to the later redfield

Olympic type. It currently has an Olympic front and rear sight.

The Olympic rear sight mounts very nicely to the Marbles-Goss base.

My question is, does anybody have an idea what the cost would have been

to do an upgrade of this type?

I am planning to return it to the earlier sight configuration.

Nope, sorry, but it would be interesting to know relative to the cost of the rifle!

(I've read about the factory trigger upgrade offer, but I am surprised that the 'new-style' stock is numbered to the rifle!)

" . . . and the hole in the receiver floor to remove the bolt. . . . '

Minor point, but the hole is actually in the new ejector --- no receiver drilling,
just a new ejector. (OK, very minor. )

The Redfield Olympic and the Marbles-Goss rear mounts look pretty similiar, but they are two different parts.

That said, it never occurred to me to see if the sights could be swapped onto the "other" base.

(If so, did Redfield just re-invent the wheel --- doesn't sound right?)

I'm thinking its really an Olympic base --- this may call for further research!

Good luck!

Marbles Goss rear sight base

I am certain it is a Marbles Goss base. It is marked REM. 37 and has four mounting holes. The marking is on the base below the holes. I have seen a number of images of the Model 37 rear sight and base

and all the bases are exactly the same as the one on this rifle. The font, size, and style, of the letters and numbers on the mount are identical to the markings on the Winchester Model 52 Marbles Goss base.
