10/22 T.D. brl mounted scope with Back Packer stock...

After a couple weeks and some field time thought I'd share. Trying out a barrel mounted loooong eye relief Pistol scope on one of my stainless Take-Downs, so far I like it. Functionally it’s great as the POI meets with POA regardless how often barrel is removed and installed, aesthetically I feel it looks goofy. Tried it on elevated see through mounts at first (upper two pics) to utilize the NDS peep sights for short range work, was a bit cumbersome for me to make use of so mounted the scope in lower standard mounts no longer using the Peeps, (removing the peeps to use on the other TakeDown). Eye relief on this scope is 8-1/2"-10-1/2", could mount the scope even further forward while retaining adequate eye relief. Member “Tom E Gun” mentioned in another thread a wider single scope mount that make for a cleaner install, may look into that or possibly one with a slight cantilever and track down a higher quality pistol scope with a bit less eye relief.

Raised see through mounts...

As it is now in lower mounts, (much cleaner in appearance though peep sights no longer usable)

***EDIT: Corrected eye relief error***

What's the measurement from top of rail to the center of the rings?

If it helps, barrel centerline to scope centerline was at 2.3" with the high rings, now it is 1.8" with medium rings.
I'm away from the property this week so can't get the measurement you're asking for, if you still want it I can get it for you when I get back either this or the following weekend I can measure from the top of the MAGPUL mount rail and the factory Ruger rail on the receiver, (removed the NDS sight/rail after pics were taken).

If it's not too much trouble, the dimensions and weight of your scope as well.

I measured 1.075" with my dial calipers.

Keep in mind this is a very cheap (paid only $36 shipped new), "no brand name" Chinese scope purchased merely as a proof of concept for mounting a pistol/scout scope on the MagPul optic mount, box has no writing or stickers on it, instructions that came with it lists several generic scopes but not the 2-7x32 scope that was in the box. Few hundred rounds through gun so far and its still holding zero, fingers still crossed. So far the concept proven successful....
Copy and pasted from one of many sellers on eBay;

By the way, it "just" barely fits in the Ruger take down bag broke down but not in the broke down assembled configuration the X22 stock allows, (Just setting in bag for test fit, I don't recommend packaging it in the bag without first verifying it wont get damaged during transport).

You want a scout scope not a pistol scope. There is a difference in eye relief. The scout scope is meant to be mounted forward on a rifle not extended out to arms length.

Did a quick Google search for .22 scout scope and came up with nothing specifically for .22 caliber.

if you ask me the entire gun looks "off" so that scope and mount fit right in.
Making it work the way we want is all that matters. Maybe a slightly smaller scope and ditch the iron sights al together?

10/22 T.D. brl mounted scope with Back Packer stock...

I'm putting together a similar rifle. Instead of the Magpul optic mount, I'm using the rail on a Volquartsen TD barrel. My goal was to get the eyepiece of the otpic ahead of the barrel interface, so that it's safely packable with the Backpacker stock stowed. The stock should arrive this week. I'm eyeing a Vortex 2-7x scout scope.

Thanks for posting this. I plan on the whole thing looking weird.

There's quite a bit of weight, comparatively, in this scope. It's a Vortex Scout on low QD rings. I'd like to figure out a BUIS, even if it's got a really short radius.

It still fits in the Ruger takedown bag.

I have the Scout as well, and it's a great optic.

Yeah, but I'm wondering if instead I shouldn't have moved a reflex red dot from an AR and upgraded that optic instead...
