Looks like the bolt would need to be modified to accept a custom firing pin to convert from rimfire to centerfire. Probably have to set the barrel back and recut the chamber. Otherwise... that would be it, right? No? Any thoughts?

Sounds like a lot of work for not much return. the only maker of it discontinued the rifle. It would be like trying to maintain a 5mm remington.

Yes, its a boutique cartridge and everything that comes with that. The idea was getting talked about on some forums back when rimfire ammo was scarce and has stuck with me as an interesting possibility ever since. The benefit being the ability to cast the boolits and reload the case almost indefinitely and fill the same use as 22lr/22wmr.

I'm just wondering if the RAR is an ideal host for a conversion or if there's something prohibitive / another better option as a host, etc.

Why not just go with a 22 Hornet?

Wait! Is rimfire ammo scarce again? It's 2019 right?

An awful lot of work for a maybe and oh my the bolt work alone would be a total redesign and the chamber pressure is like double a .22 WMR. (Wear safety glasses!)

Now remember, not all things need to be practical or cost effective. Sometimes it's the journey and not the destination.

Thank-you nodak.

There's zero chance I'm doing this. (All my money these days goes to my kids' extra curricular activities.) But I'm a curious type, and I know there are people out there who do exactly this kind of stuff just for fun. That's the whole point.

Also to clarify. You are talking going from a 22mag rimfire to a 22TCM centerfire correct?

I have a Armscor 22tcm rifle tactical model with adjustable stock and like it. Still ringing it out but expect good things. They are about same price as 22mag. It is a odd caliber but that's the charm of it.

I was under the impression he's talking about .22 Cooper Centerfire Magnum ("CCM"):

Though that .22 TCM (Tuason Craig Micromagnum) looks interesting...

I was indeed talking about the cooper. Long ago, I heard a person more knowledgeable then I mention how the 22ccm was a bit like a scaled down 45/70. I thought that was cool.
