SuperStock Bolt Cheap Ammo Challenge...

We have plenty of difficult games, so I'm going to make this one easy....

This game will require that you shoot cheap bulk type ammo, and leave the high priced designer ammo in the box.....;)

The Rules....
1. Any SuperStock Bolt Action compliant rifle, any optics up to 36X, No Lazer devices.

2. Sandbags, rolled up beach towel, factory rest, whatever you like to shoot from with the only exception being a Ransome Rest, or any other type that locks the rifle into a perminate possition.

3. All targets will be shot with 4 - 4 round groups, plus 4 measuring shots that must be clearly sepperate from the groups. All 4 groups and measuring shots MUST be on the same card, and shot at the same time, on the same day.

4. All target submissions must be current, and shot for this game, in other words, no digging up old targets and submitting them for approval.

There will be two catagories for qualification....and scoring will be on an average of all 4 groups.......

Catagory #1 - must be shot from 50 yards with a total average not to exceed .750" (3/4")
Catagory #2 - must be shot from 25 yards with a total average not to exceed .500" (1/2")

Now comes the tricky part......:D

You must shoot cheap bulk grade ammo.....the cheaper, the better......anything you can find for $20.00 per brick or less....(this rule will be modified as the price of ammo is very unstable, and constantly increasing)

Here's a list of some to give you an idea for which the spirit of this game is intended.......

Eley Sport & Remington-Eley Standard Target will be the high water mark

All ammunition has been chosen based on the current retail price per 50 round count from the following sources....Champion Shooters, Midway USA, and Natchez Shooter's Supply

The "NO" list
Includes but is not limited too.....
Anything from SK, Wolf, RWS, Lapua, CCI...(with the obvious exception of Blazers), all Fiocchi not listed above, Aquila Golden Eagle's, Super Maximum, all Eley and Remington-Eley not listed above, PMC Match Pistol or Match Rifle, and anything from the Federal Gold Metal line.

All target submissions MUST include the ammo used, if you have a cheap grade of ammo not listed, please include the fair market value of that ammo when submitting your target. If you are not sure, ask first before shooting the game. This does not allow those who happen to find a premium grade of ammo being sold at a gun show, or remotely located gun shop for bargin prices, to use that ammo in this game. Remember the "SPIRIT" of this game is to use bulk grade ammo, there are plenty of other games here where you can use the premium grade Ammo...just not here....!

Scoring your targets.....

Using standard calipers and standard measurements...(no metrics please)....include the size of each measuring shot, and the total average used for subtraction. Include the outside to outside measurement of all 4 groups with the subtractor, and the total center to center measurement. Then add all 4 groups, divide by 4, and include your group average. Scan or photograph your target, then up load it to any one of the free photo hosting sites in a size reasonable for use on a message board....(640 X 800), then link it to your post. You may also include any other information concerning the conditions, what you had to do to your rifle to get it to shoot the cheap stuff, the fact that it was your wife's birthday, but you went shooting anyway.....etc...etc.....
Software programs such as "ontarget" or any others like it are not to be used for measuring targets for this game. Digital or dial calipers are the only accepted form of measurements allowed.
You may enter this Challenge as many times as you like with different rifles, and you may enter the same rifle as many times as you like, but each entry must be shot with a different brand and/or type of ammo.

New Twist added......
The "RE-SHOOT" rule.......if you are not happy with, or feel you can do better on any one of your entries, then you may shoot it again with the same type of ammo. When submitting the re-shot target you must indicate on that target that it is a re-shoot. I will change your original score to reflect the new & improved score and place (RS) next to it to indicate that it was a re-shot score. For those with limited access to the ammo on the list here, this will give you continued oppertunities to keep shooting in the Cheap Ammo Challenge.....
Now grab that box of junk ammo, and go have some fun........:bthumb:

Thank you Tony.

I'm going to have fun with this one.

I've found that my Marlin and CZ like the cheapy (Rigger) stuff the best.

Weather willing I will have multiple targets to post in the next few days.

Again Thank you.

Oh. +1 on what Rico said. "You will be one busy guy with that latitude in targets."

Craig N.

BTW - You might want to add in the Fed 750's to that list. Them being the "king" of bulk. Just a suggestion.

Tony I do not feel much like shooting games lately. I have had a GOOD pistol target for months and haven't even entered it in SuperStock pistol.

I had a good run at the games. Put my name in a lot of places.

It seemed important at one point......

#7 ·
thanks, Tony,

for the response. the CZ will be here on wed, and after scoping it with some
cheap tip-off mounts, will give your game a go. i have a few of the afore
mentioned types of ammo.

so, theoritically i can use one rifle and qualify say, 8 times? sorry, went back
and re-read the rules. gotcha, good to go,

rico....

#11 ·
It seemed important at one point......
yea, but for some here, esp if getting a new "stick-shift" that is a totally
new animal, this will be a good "stepping stone" for some of the other
games and wont hurt the CC too much as i'm sure most everyone here
has a bunch of cheap ammo on hand that they wont normally use for some
of the "tuffer" games here, JMO,

thanks, Tony

rico....purple neon....LOL,

#16 ·
Don't get me wrong Rico. I am happy to run the games I have going (with some hassles:eek: ;) ) but I am just having fun shooting the way I am now. After I did the SuperStock MOA and your 1/8 Ball That was kind of the top of the line for me.....time to try something else.

Who knows, I may decide to shoot one next week but I think I am going to be more selective and not try to put my name on every list. If I try TOO hard it stops being fun.

I LIKE cheering you guys on. If you ever shot with me you would find I enjoy Spotting for others (like in long range shooting) as much as I do shooting it self. I will still be right here spotting for you guys and cheering everyone on.:D :bthumb:

That's it....new rule change......NO MORE CZ's ALLOWED......:yikes:

Just kidding ya Nelson, that's some purdy fine shoot'in with the cheap stuff......:bthumb:

You might have to give me a week to post all those scores, but I'll get'em up there......

#24 ·
Thanks Tony,

Yea the CZ really likes the (Rigger) ammo.

If I would have taken my time, I probably would have been able to do a little better. The CZ w/ the 510's and Fiocchi are real close at getting me into the SDC, when I do my part.

I'll start on the 50yd game soon. ;)

yea, Vince,

if trying for a certain game, no matter how hard / easy they are, i'll give
it a few groups worth of trying. if it dont work, i'll stop for the day.

and you're right, trying TOO hard takes the fun out of it, JMO, but i imagine
that for those that need to travel to a range, they will wanna make the most
of the trip, IF, they bring the "right" rifle, LOL, dont forget the bags, etc,

rico....

#28 ·
and you're right, trying TOO hard takes the fun out of it,

rico....
I discovered this very thing with the Sawdust Challenge Rico, I was trying way too hard, and it was quickly loosing it's "fun factor" for me, so last week I diversified my shooting. I started gunning for the 100 yard MOA, I shot a couple of really bad targets, and a couple that showed serious promise. This weekend I spent only a pourtion of my Saturday range time shooting the Sawdust, then I dialed the scope back to 100 yards, put the Weatherby away, and played with the R-55.
Sunday I started off shooting the R-55 @ 50 yards for the May open sight BR match, then broke out the Weatherby to shoot some 100 yard MOA...and got it....:) Now I think for next weekend I'll do some cheap ammo shooting @ 50 yards before I dial the scope back into 25 so I can test some of these Aquila Golden eagle's that arrived today.....

One of these days I gotta get back to the pistol range, our Bullseye matches start up on the 18th, and I've gotten rusty spending all this time shooting rifles......

#26 ·
That's a lot of it Rico. If I could shoot in the back yard it would be one thing. But it gets harder and harder for me to load the car, go to the range, unload the car, Load the car, go home unload the car. By the time I'm done I pay dearly in pain. If I go to the range for fun I take about 1/2 what i do for a serious trip. Plus what used to be simple is now much more junk.

So when I get there I want to have fun. Shooting the games HAS been fun but I have proven, to my self, what was important for me to prove. From this point on I will just be more selective. I WOULD kind of like to put the Blue Twin on the nemohunter 100 MOA list but I have been waiting for company there first:oops: :hide:

#27 ·
Oh wow..... I just realized that the targets I shot last Saturday would probably qualify. They went out with the trash this morning though so guess I will have to go out to the range again next Sat and do it all over again.... gotta remember 4 shot groups though.

Here's one BEFORE recording the measurements on it....
