99M1 used at Cabelas

Yesterday I was looking at Cabelas used guns and they have a Marlin 99M1. It's in fairly good condition but is missing the inner mag tube and the rear sight. It has a very slim flash hider on the barrel and a nice leather sling. I would have love to bought it but their price was $325 and I don't know if that's negotiable, especially with the inner mag tube missing. I don't care about the rear sight as I would put a scope on it anyway.

That is high. I bought one at a gun show last year for $250 complete with rear sight. I had to refinish the stock which someone slapped a coat of varnish on. The original sights are hard to find and expensive. I suspect the inner mag tube will be hard to replace since it is shorter than a regular model 60 tube.

For that price it should be in top condition. Just check eBay and other places and see what the rear sight sells for, and the magazine tube. GunBroker has a rear sight beginning at $150.00 + on bid. Value depends on what a person feels like they want to pay, and if they want a return on the investment or if they just want something and are willing to pay to get it. That is my opinion, and not necessarily that of everyone.

I agree it was overpriced for sure. I priced a mag tube $45 on ebay. If the rifle was $225-250 I would have bought it. The leather sling was a nice addition to the rifle. But sadly I don't think Cabelas would even lower their price.

I've done price negotiation with Cabela's a couple of time. Take the rifle into the 'Library' and politely ask if the price could be lowered. That saved me up to $35 on the tags price.

$325? I'd expect it to be NIB.

The sad part about it is, they probably gave the guy who brought it in to sell it $100. And marked it up 300% and now it sits there for a long time, unable to sell it because they price gouged it.

I agree, their asking price is at least twice what it's worth?

I've found that prices for used guns in general have skyrocketed in the past year or so... especially old .22 rifles (and S&W pistols... a .38 M&P that would have been $325 not that long ago will now have a price tag of $600! ). And especially in larger shops. It's like they actually don't want to sell them.

I've heard a lot of their guns come from estate auctions. So chances are they didn't even give $100 for it.

I regularly see ordinary, and VERY used (and not too pretty) Model 60s with price tags of $125-150+. Seriously. I'm not even gonna try to negotiate that down.

With those missing parts and modification (flash hider) to me it is way overpriced. I had been checking pawn shops, gunbroker and gun shows for a few years (very few .22's in any of the local shows).
Finally lucked out in a show about 40 miles from my home and picked up a nice one for $225. Keep looking Nerostarr, there's one out there somewhere with your name on it.

I don't know how Cabelas sells any used guns. They usually have a large selection, but every one is overpriced. They might be worth it if they were professionally cleaned, completely checked over by a gunsmith, and worn internal parts replaced. I've asked two different times and was told they do not negotiate prices.

I've seen several examples of 'nothing special' used guns being the same price as you can get a new one for on sale.

Numrich has the inner mag tube for $30.70.
