Added A Second 10/22 to the Collection Today

Somehow I've managed to resist buying more than one 10/22 for almost 25 years. My first, a SS carbine with an aftermarket Hogue stock, a cheap scope and the horrible stock trigger, has been a lot of fun but it has always just been a plinker that I took out when the weather was poor.

Last year I upgraded the trigger group and added a Tech Sight TSR200 and replaced the charging handle and some other goodies to build a rifle to shoot my first Appleseed with. Well, those upgrades and the improved rifle that appeared must have lit a small fire in me for another 10/22.

I started looking around for another rifle a few months ago but didn't see one that caught my eye until this weekend. I wanted a wooden stock, 20" barrel and I planned to scope the rifle.

I'm cursed to have a great LGS within 5 minutes of the house so I made a trip to see what they had. A friend told me they had some new stock in.

Everyone needs a buddy who is an enabler!

To my surprise they had a number of nice 10/22s with wooden stocks. This one caught my eye and ended up following me home.

Spring came for a visit this weekend as well so I had a pretty day to shoot today. I decided to shoot the first few hundred rounds with some Remington Golden Bullets since I had plenty to spend. They ran fine thru the rifle with no failures of any kind.

The stock trigger is your typical 6 lb pull 10/22 trigger but after the first 50 shots I started to get the hang of it as it smoothed up a bit.

After a quick sight in at 15 yards, I moved the target out to 25 yards and shot 10 shots at the top target, I made a few adjustments and shot two more 10 shot groups at the middle targets. Next I moved the target out to 50 yards and fired two more 10 shot groups at the lower two targets. By the time I finished the 50 rounds the barrel was moderately warm but not hot. All poor shots are on me. I wasn't looking for a target rifle, just another plinker with minute of squirrel capability. I'm satisfied.

And of course the obligatory spring day photo....

Now to make room in the gun safe.

Thanks for looking in.

John

Very nice rifle? Leupold scope?

Congrats on your second 10/22. I bet it won't be another 25 years until #3.

Thanks gents.

Yes, the scope is a Leupold VX-1, 3 - 9 x 40.

You're probably right about #3

This is one of the best limited run 10/22 Ruger has put out to date. I have one that has been CPCd and an LVT in the same stock. Local shop got two of these in, one is real nice (like yours) and the other has about as much figure as a mop handle!

gmd1950,

That's the one. I first looked at it on Friday then did some homework on prices and scope options and went back to pick it up on Saturday.

It's a sweet one.

Model# is 11165

Not sure of the distributor as I purchased it through my local gunshop. A google search on the Model# brings up links to Lipsey's.

Looks like another nice day to exercise the rifle a bit!

gmd1950,

I spoke with a fellow customer at the counter when I first looked at the rifle, he looked a lot like the photo on your profile page!

Have a safe day.
