I saw all these pictures of “purty” pistols and I thought that I would show something “old school.” Back in 1956 or 57 my dad bought a WW2 surplus 1911—a mix of a 1917 Colt frame (now over 100 years old), WW2 US&S slide, and assorted other parts. A while back I came across an unused Colt 22 Conversion kit probably from the 1970’s. I decided to transform dad’s pistol, adding some new parts and the conversion kit. I used a Dlask long trigger, an EGW sear and disconnect, a John Masen GI style hammer, an old surplus hammer strut, an older Springfield thumb safety, and a Cylinder & Slide sear spring. I retained the original grip safety, magazine release, arched MSH, and grips. Everything else was included with the 22 conversion kit, including the slide stop/release. It’s fun to shoot, not as accurate as its mates (a couple of 1952 series 2 Colts and a 1967 FN International Medalist), but it has a lot of history.
