J Stevens model 66B questions

Hi folks, I'm a new member of this website and this is my first post. I picked up a J Stevens arms company model 66-B tonight from a guy on armslist. It seems to be in pretty good condition overall for a hundred bucks. It functions properly with snap caps in spite of missing the left extractor. It needs a good cleaning but in good condition overall. Nice walnut stock that looks to be original and a fair amount of blue left for it's age. Is there anyway to narrow down the manufacture date? It was made in Chicopee Falls, it says patent pending and has a number 10 in a circle on the left rear of the barrel. The receiver has been machined for a peep sight but has only one mounting screw and the stock has a cutout below the machined surface. It also has two holes on the receiver with screws for a side mount scope. Any suggestions on a scope mount for this would be useful as I would like to mount a weaver b4 on it if I can find a mount. Any suggestions are very welcome. Thanks.

First of all, Welcome to the forum!
Your Stevens rifle is essentially identical to the Savage Model 5, and they were well regarded. Unfortunately, there is no way to tell exactly when it was made, but since yours is a "Buckhorn" model, I would think your rifle was made around 1945-47.
I'm fairly certain that a Weaver N2 mount will fit the drilled and tapped holes on the left side of the receiver, and unless you already have a b4 scope, I believe you would get much better performance from a J2.5 or J4 Weaver.
Best of luck with your rifle. They can be quite accurate.

Thanks for the feedback and the welcome guys. I already have a b4 Bill and will use it but I will check for a J model Weaver for future use. After reading about the different models I think a J series would be nice upgrade too. The info on the correct mount was very helpful and I found a couple on ebay already.
I was wrong the stock has been refinished as there is still evidence of the black paint on the inside of the forestock that was apparently removed. Numerich has the left side extractor parts so that's on the to do list along with a good cleaning. I know that I will enjoy shooting this one. Long barrel bolt guns are an addiction I've had for a while.

I have a 66C that was my uncle's that I got back in the 60s. It is my primary squirrel gun and I just love plinking with it at 100 yds. Just wish I could get that trigger pull down but haven't been successful yet. Enjoy yours.
