Last may, my son and I were driving out to Yellowstone from western NY. Once in Iowa saw a sign for the Brownell's retail store just off of I80. I figured it might be nice to poke around a bit so we stopped in. To my surprise they have a very nice collection of firearms for sale too.
Looking around I saw a 512 on display. So I asked if they could sell it to a NY resident. After about 1/2 hour they came back and said that they could. So after all the paperwork went through I now own a 512 in 22lr to go along with my 512 in 22 WMR.
It sat buried in my vehicle for the rest of the trip. Last week I finally got a chance to shoot it. One handling failure with the first mag. After that it ran like clockwork. Usual CZ accuracy. And my old style mags that I have from my 542 Trainer work fine too as is.
It is new, but has a manufacturing date if 2014. As a one time milsurp collector I have no issues with the trigger. From the factory is is orders of magnitude better than any milsurp I have owned. Especially the one that you could cock and carry around by the trigger without it firing. That one had something like an 11 pound (5 kg) trigger pull. Got to love those old Russian rifles.
The people at the store were very friendly and helpful. All in all a good shopping experience.
