My H&R 22 magnum Wont Go Bang

Really cranky about this got a 157 22 magnum I picked up a couple of months back, when I got it to the range it fired ok with S&B ammo but was hit and miss with rem premium.

Got a nice today mounted a new scope and it wont fire any ammo, I opened the action held the trigger back and pushed the hammer forward firing pin protrudes just fine. Tried pulling the trigger hard and all the way back still no bang bang.

Any tips fellas?

John

Obvious answer is bring it to a gunsmith. I assume you did not come hear for that? All ammo should work all the time.

Headspace or main spring? Or both are marginal. You can buy a NOGO gauge $30 Brownell. I think you can play a few games looking at strike marks. Even use an empty case (not fired, pull bullet) , pull trigger and hit hammer with a mallet. Observe effect.

At the range - If you try and fire a 2nd and 3rd time and still no bang probably not the spring. Weak spring situation will usually go off on the 2nd try.

You could buy a spring (part #21) at Numrich. Good start. Nothing to loose really:

You could also consider fitting a new firing pin with more protrusion if needed also from Numrich. This maybe more of a some skilled required job. But, you asked.

As mush as I like the H&R single shotguns and rifles. They were low cost with a low tech assembly. This might be one that was never right.
