Finally a 9422 scope that I like!

I've been scouring through old forums on what scope to put on my 9422's. Both of these scopes were mentioned here on RFC so I started shopping. I had the Burris Mini 6x but I'm still not 100% sold as to both mounts having to be on the back side of the turrets. I won an auction for the Leupold M8 4x Compact. That's a perfect set up to me. I'd like to find, (gloss black), 6x compact or a 2-7 Rimfire for the magnums and another 4x for another 22 lr. I just wish Leupold, (and others), would offer their "Freedom" line of rimfire scopes in a gloss. I just don't care for matte black on a 9422.

If a scope MUST be put on a 9422 then I favor a small one, vintage 3/4" Weavers aren't bad in that roll. To my (old) eye scopes just don't belong on Winchester lever guns, there are plenty of bolt and auto rifles for that.

I totally agree. This beautiful rifle and also the Browning SA-22 are just too pretty for a scope.

If I had any control of my eye sight I would agree about not putting a scope on a lever. But it's what needs to be done to shoot it and I wanted a scope that was as physically small as possible for it. At a recent gun show I looked through a vintage Redfield 3/4". I'm sure it's me but I had trouble looking through it. As much as I liked the size and look of it I didn't think I'd be happy with it and passed.

As an alternative to scopes, especially short range calibers, I've been putting Ultra Dot red dots on some other guns including a Rossi 92 in .357. That works very well because of the forward mount. I had to pull a Weaver scope off a Dan Wesson 22 mag because I couldn't see well enough. I replaced it with an Ultra Dot as well. I have Ultra Dots on both Marlin Camp Carbines also and they make for quick acquisition of targets for me.

Finally a 9422 scope that I like

Love my 9422 with a Leupy Vari X 3, 1.5 to 5 scope. It is petite, and makes for a great field gun to carry. I chose the magnum 9422, to chase the Yotes off my Reg. Genemaster goats. The field of view is good, and very clear.

Sometimes I find them on so-so .22s that are for sale cheap, I buy the rifles just for the Weaver scopes.

I apologize for hijacking this thread. I have a 9422M and my 74 year old eyes are not what they used to be so I am likely going to put a scope on mine. Some of these scopes look fine; I am wondering what kind of rings you are using.

Thanks, and once again I am sorry for hijacking.

Hector

I use "extended" rings because of the short mounting surface.
