Hello fellow shooters. This shoot interested me because it uses the official NRA A-23/5 target. I purchased a bundle of them in June and today is the first time to give it a try. Did some warm up on the class III target in the Fun Match. This is a new rifle with less than 1000 rounds fired. I tested 20 different lots of RWS R50 and Special Match, some Lapua Center X and Midas + and today some SK offerings.

I shot four targets testing ammo and learning how to shoot this target. I'm a little confused how you can select the right ammo for this shoot if you can only shoot four targets per month. Maybe I don't clearly understand the rules.

199 10X Center X
198 12X SK Rifle Match
197 9X SK Long Range Rifle Match

199 12X Leroy Jones. Caledonia, Mi. (leej)
Anschutz 1903 MSR. Anschutz 6834 sight set. SK Flat Nose Match
Sinclair bi-pod. Protector rear bag.
EXCUSES first ever effort shooting this target.
Partly cloudy, 85F, 8-9 mph changing breeze.
50 3X, 50 4X, 49 1X, 50 4X

Shoot as much as you like.

I stopped paying attention to the 4 targets a month per rifle rule long ago. Nobody has ever called me on it. Once upon a time I had 4 or 5 rifles I could use, and it was easy spread out my targets. I have reduced inventory and have only one decent rifle here in Florida and one only in Massachusetts. I have shot some lesser rifles and submitted targets as it is fun to do so. Having fun is required. We are a relaxed group of old shooters and are understanding of our limitations and the limitations of our friends here on RFC.

Tips: Learn your trigger. Learn how to make it go bang without disturbing the aim. Consider learning and using wind flags. You have good equipment. You have good ammo. Work on technique and welcome to this group.

Thank you for the warm welcome David and advise. Purchased wind flags last month and working on setup and understanding them.

I really like that rifle Lee. And nice score first time out of the gate. I used to shoot these matches years ago but lost my 50 yard range. All I have left is 25 and 100. Stay cool.

Thank you Jack. I was pleased for a first look at this target. I like this one and will work on technique as David recommended

Copied from above somewhere...............

I was under the impression you could shoot all you want but report 4 targets/mo/. I havent shot the Kimber and reported any scores in about 3 yrs so I better read the rules.

I usually shot 2 targets/outing.

Shoot what you want, report what you want.

A copy of my recent post.

To take a reporting procedure from an other on line match here on RFC, you could, if you want, preface a report with the statement it is a practice or for record.

Vintage Martini MK II
Redfield International F&R
Merit disk
Eley standard bulk pak

Shifty winds and only killed one windflag! Beautiful rainy day spitting mist at 65 degrees at the Niagra WI range.
Greasiest ammo ever fired out of this Martini, normally shucks spent brass in excess of twenty foot, have to pluck from chamber manually.
50-5x, 50-3x,50-3x,50-2x=200-13x

Note to self nicking windflags depending on flag material can cause errant boowets!

Maybe an August target, maybe not, depending on shoulder surgeons recommendation. Looking at third shoulder surgery of the year, this time shooting shoulder. Have found shooting once again therapeutic. Group therapy sessions😎

Rob Fates, Alamo, CA
49-4X, 50-1X, 50-2X, 50-3X = 199-10X
Remington 521-T, SK Rifle Match ammo
Lyman 57RS rear and 17A front sights
Protektor front and rear bags

Best score so far and not expected with this rifle. Some days you shoot better than other days...

I'm posting all of my scores, several each month, now that my range is open again.

Practice July 22 four targets

Got out late afternoon yesterday to practice with the wind flags and work on front aperture size. My first post here was a setting of 2.2. These are 2.8 and with a mixed bag of RWS ammo.

Leroy Jones. Caledonia, Mi. (leej)
Anschutz 1903 MSR. Anschutz 6834 sight set. RWS R50 mixed bag
Sinclair bi-pod. Protector rear bag.
EXCUSES first ever effort shooting this target.
Partly cloudy, 81F, 14 mph changing breeze.
47 0X, 50 2X, 50 3X, 50 4X - 197 9X
40 0X, 50 4X, 50 0X, 50 2X - 199 6X
50 2X, 49 1X, 49 1X, 48 3X - 196 7X
49 3X, 50 2X, 50 2X, 50 3X - 199 10X

I am starting to see groups, fewer clusters.
