Federal Bulk Pack 550
I shot a couple of boxes of Federal Bulk Pack .22lr - 550 count (36 gr., copper-plated, hollow point) last year thru my .22lr pistols, and was really impressed. Clean casings, reliable, accurate, reasonably priced (at Walmart) etc. I rate it pretty highly compared to ~6 other types of .22lr ammo I tried last year.
Is this the most desirable .22lr bulk pack? I know, I know, you may say the most desirable bulk pack is whatever you can find right now. BUT let's assume you can find what you're looking for.
Is Federal Bulk Pack .22lr - 550 count (36 gr., copper-plated, hollow point) the most desirable 22lr bulk pack (i.e. not target grade ammo)? If so, why?

they ARE the best BULK
in my opinion, i have shot them for years. the red 550 box is a wal mart exclusive , any where ELSE you buy it it is in a blue box and 525 rds! i used to find the blue boxes at academy. now federa bulk is impossible to find except at gun shows for $80.00! havent seen at WM since before t-giving 2012. i have 20 different rimfire long/hand gunsand the federal runs great in all of them.

The federal 550 stuff works in every gun I have except for a 422, and my gsg .22 Neither of these pistols like it. My buddy's gsg loves the stuff so I guess it is a gun for gun thing.

I am not the most experienced guy here, but I have shot thousands of rounds of Federal bulk, both red and blue boxes, and so far it is BY FAR the best bulk ammo available. In the past 9 months I have not found any at Walmart but purchased 4brick+ammo can specials from Cabela's three times. You just have to keep an eye out for it when it comes up for sale.

Sig....You may very well have found the bulk ammo best suited for the gun in question and therefore, yes it would be the most desirable, in that case.
My experience, for my purposes shows that Federal Auto Match is a better non HP bulk load and the CCI Troy Landry MM hp is a better HP.
The other load that provided superior accuracy, again in my experience was the old Winchester Dynapoints which are near impossible to find now.
My only issue with the Fed bulk (745 & 750) is that none of my guns really like it. With that said, I don't recall any problems with ignition, power or fouling.
Like most folks, I keep a brick or two on hand, just in case. fd

Went to the Yuma gunshow yesterday morning, guy had about 20 of these, only $95.00 per box. Folks were not standing in line to buy.
It is pretty good stuff, I use a lot of it in my handguns, hardly ever a misfire or malfunction.

It's my go-to ammo, functioning in all my .22s very well, just shy of matching CCI Mini-Mags for a lot less price. I haven't seen one on a shelf since December 2012. It's my "barometer" for when ammo is back to "normal". Once I see stacks of Value Packs like before, that will be "normal".

We got three of the Fedral bulk pack 550's at Walmart two weeks ago. My son was there after Christmas shopping and noticed a bunch of old men standing around. When he asked what was going on they told him they had bulk pack. He got in line and bought the limit of three boxes.

I just picked up a brick of the Federal Auto Match and the Winchester M-22 in the 1000 round brick. I haven't shot either brand before but I will be interested to see how they do.

I found a few boxs of the Federal "Auto Match", and had a chance to shoot some recently.
Good stuff, reliable, accurate and clean. Best cheap ammo I have found so far, even my 12 year old son noticed it.
Hey dad, this is really good ammo !

That is great news...they are coming back! The Federal bulk packs were and are the best value for the dollar. I used to buy them when they were $8.50 a brick up to the last ones were about $14.00 from WM.

Now they are ~$24/550 box at Walmart (~$0.044/round) before tax.

I've had no issues with the Fed/Wallyworld 550 packs. (other than I haven't seen any at the stores lately.. hopefully that'll change)
My pistols really like them, even my wife's Mosquito which is notoriously ammo-picky.
Match ammo they are not , but that being said, they shoot good enough for me to qualify for NRA Distinguished Expert/pistol a while back, so no complaints at all!
