The over-travel screw stops the trigger from excessive rearward movement once the hammer has been released. Excessive over-travel and reset distances can lead to decreased accuracy and may fatigue a trigger finger during competition. It is more common to see in a pistol or a semi auto rifle for competition.

If it bothers you replace it which is probably cheaper than repair unless you can do it yourself. I would change the screw to a shorter headless allen screw so it does not look so obvious. It does serve a useful purpose.
