Steve, thanks for the info. I have found many of the very early CMP rifles like yours will have the commercial finish stock and no U.S. markings.

Steve

I think that might be a first year D (1961)? Do you think that they were using using up leftover C triggers at that time?

The C type trigger was used up to about the 114xxx range, give or take.

Gentlemen,

I was finally able to make it home to pick up the 52E Scott was generous enough to sell me. As he mentioned in a previous post it did have some surface rust and freckling on it. I was able to strip it for a good cleaning and I replaced the bolt handle, trigger, hand stop lock lever and front sling swivel due to rust freckling. I also replaced the hand stop with the proper 52D/E hand stop since it came with a Remington 40X hand stop. There is still some rust staining on the in-the-white muzzle and some very light freckling on the right side of the barrel but overall I am VERY pleased with it! Judging by the bolt it does not look like it was shot very much.

As requested I have included some photos. It is my first 52E since I am a pre-64 guy but I am really looking forward to getting it to the range.

Best Regards,

Nice looking rifle. Looking forward to a Range Report. Mine likes Remington/Eley EPS.

Best Regards,
I can't see why.....the weather is very nice..........here in Texas. And I guess it helps to be retired and have some time to spare.

Again, beautiful gun......hope it lives up to your expectations.

I have been pleasantly surprised at how well mine shoots. It's a pure joy operate...........makes me want another one.

It will be going up against my old CMP 52D which has had countless rounds through it so I am hoping the fresher barrel will help if nothing else.

I am looking forward to finding the quirks in this one and getting it tuned.

I have some eley ready to go as that is what the old 52D likes also.

Best Regards,

Wish you luck. My 52D likes several different types of ammo and will shoot just about as well as my 52E, Please keep us posted.

My Best,
AJ

Same here....not much difference at all. I have a tuner on the E which helps. I think if I put it on the D, there would be virtually no difference in the accuracy potential of the two guns with their favorite ammo.
