S46M Spiegel

picked this up the other day.....wasnt sure what the S stood for but after finding out it denotes made for Spiegel and only 1950 or so of this model were made I just had to have it...

in nice shape....has frt sight hood...dust cover...sling swivels....the down side is the frt sight that I think should have 4 inserts looks to have 2 (haven't taken apart yet)....and the one that is there doesnt (lock) into center....more left and right?....also the rear peep is missing its aperture (screw in version)...

bolt is dirty...old oil hard etc....is it advisable to take apart?....and is there a "trick" to do so

Thanks for any help input....also pics links below....still havnt figured out how to combine them on Imgur to just have the album link

If the end cap of the bolt is tight? Just cover it with leather or something before taking the pliers or vise to it.

After market apertures are available. Look up Apertures N' More.

Front sight flat spring is probably broke. Pick the aperture you desire, then put something soft under it to hold it.

Congrats on finding the "s".

She looks great, took me years to find one.

Here is a side view of the front sight, you can see the different post on it. I can see three post on yours for sure, just not sure on the other. as far as it being off centered, there is a pin in there that when it gets hit, it jumps out of track and shifts over to the side. The sight can be taken apart and reassembled. But can be a pain and the springs are easily broken.

As for the front sight, if you are willing to ship it to me and supply a few dollars for return shipping. I have a few extra of the smaller post available for the sight. And if the spring is broken, I can fabricate a new for it. Just send me a private message. Terry
