Got mine, a silver version. The loading gate is unacceptably stiff, however some Ballistol and a few hundred opening and closings have improved it.

Question loading gate

sounds like this is a problem with all of them from what I have been reading ! I hope it will break in with use, a little lube and lots of use. I have not even seen one yet, not available in my NE GA area that I can find.

Ruger wrangler 22lr

Picked my wrangler up Tuesday called around and found one price was 209.00 plus tax. Got the silver wanted black but the silver is very nice way better than chiapa or rough rider I have had both I also have a bounty hunter and it is as good as it. If this pistol holds up ruger has hit a home run. So enjoy.

Wrangler thoughts

I understand that the loading gate is stiff because it also releases the cylinder so that it revolves freely for loading/unloading. But a little lube never hurts.

Have there been no range reports on this pistol??? Or have I missed them? How does it shoot?

As a proud Ruger stockholder, I am interested in massive sales of this new offering, everybody go out a buy one.....of each color.....for each family member. Cheaper by the dozen.

I wonder if Academy will put the Wrangler in its Black Friday sale instead of/in addition to, the Heritage RR?

just google wrangler review. I think your stock will go up, it appears ruger cant produce enough right now to fill the demand ! that's good for you ! I keep checking Academy, no wranglers yet, of course they probably buy them by the thousand so it may take a while.

Hopefully Ruger is taking note of the Wrangler demand, and puts a full line of "single six Vaquero" models out. I want stainless!!!

I will probably by a Wrangler or three while I wait.

Two things keep me from wanting this gun:

1. I dislike the way the cylinder does not index when the loading gate is open. Freewheeling like that just seems wrong.
2. The zinc alloy grip frame.

Ruger makes some good firearms, but just a couple of years ago, as I remember, having zinc alloy parts of any kind on a gun made potential customers run for the hills. I will definitely pass on these.

1. It's a halfway measure for the chambers to align easier on the New Models, which are out of alignment with the loading channel when the hand clicks because the hammer is down for loading. The New Vaquero and New Flat Top Blackhawks have the full measure; the Reverse Indexing Pawl System which works perfectly and includes a free spin hand. The Wrangler just has the hand, which makes the cyl free spin. The extra pawl, spring and set screw are simple to install; one drilled and tapped hole in the hammer channel.

2. The zinc alloy grip frame is cheaper and easier to cast than steel or aluminum ally, so it's to keep the price down. But I still run from it! For one thing, it's heavier than alloy and that's the 1st thing I'd swap on a Wrangler. The alloy grip frames proliferate on the used market with Ruger's newer, more durable powder coated finish. And wood grips.

One probably does not have to look very hard at a gun under $200 to find a fault or two.
But to get a Ruger.... a good looking single action.... at under $200... I'm all in.
The Wrangler is not a Colt SAA or a Ruger Single Six so if that is what your heart wants then don't even look at the Wrangler.
Keep in mind all the copies and variations of the Colt 1911.
