Looks pretty nice. A 4C was my first gun way back in the early 60's. I shot a lot of woodchucks with it. It's apart right now while going through it's second refresh.

Cool This one was used for hunting and teaching 2 boys to shoot and gun safety. Jerry said when they moved from East Texas to DFW he oiled it and cased it for the move. He found it in 2012 when they decided to move to Rockport. He gave it to me after finding back in a Closet where it set since 1980. I had to find a clip cause Jerry had the boys use it as a single shot and it had got lost before the move in 80..

It a full size 22 rifle and has got great set of sights!

Thats a nice one. I'd leave it alone. Theres not a lot of 4C out there compared to the M/G bolt action line up. Plus thats the way you got it from your friend.

That's a nice old rifle you've got there, lots prettier than mine.A few years ago I picked up a store brand 4C with the beavertail stock from a LGS for @ $175 out the door.It had a modified Remington magazine it it that worked quite well, since then I've gotten several Wisners magazines for it and even though they say the 10 round mags won't work in it they function just fine in my rifle.
The finish on my stock is rough and the bluing looks like it's ran but there are no nicks, scratches or gouges in my rifle and it shoots quite well.Somewhere down the line I'd like to put a peep sight(the receiver is factory d&t'd for a peep sight) and the proper front sight for a peep sighted rifle on it and see just how well it does shoot.
The shape of that fat forearm on the stock is different from most old .22's and that was the main reason I got it.It's a keeper,it could be reblued and the stock refinished but I like these old rifles un-refinished and 'as found',the rifle has been loved and used, not abused as the bore and all the mechanical parts of it were well cared for.

I got my spare magazines direct from Wisners.no middle man to jack up the prices.Odds are better than even this is where your LGS was going to get then from and I'd bet they were going to charge you a good bit more than Wisners will.
Wisners makes probably the finest replacement magazines you can get.I've had great luck with mine both for my Savage AND for my Winchester 52's,69A's and my WInchester 75.
The magazine shown in your rifle is a Wisners magazine, identifiable by the upper case S underlined .His WInchester magazines have an upper case W underlined. Here's a link.
