Hi Turtle
I have been looking for an extended sight barrel for years, have fondled a couple that were owned by fellow shooters, and have unsucessfully bid on a few on gunbroker, ebay, etc.
First off, the owners of the extended sight barrels were very careful when handling them, they were afraid of bending the front sight when it was extended and were examining me very carefully when I was inspecting it. It did seam a bit flimsy and I can see why they were concerned. There is a reason that Smith and Wesson only made them for a couple of years.
The ones I have seen on gunbroker and ebay finally went for an insane price, $800 plus dollars for the cheapest one, saw one climb to $1,100.00. As you can surmise, I am still looking but I do not expect that I will be successful. Although........
I have also been looking for a field barrel for the Model 41. I generally put a top bid price of $525 on a field barrel and consistently got outbid, usually by a couple of bidders with the final price being north of $575. Oh, I have seen a few go for much cheaper but they were obviously abused, stored in a tool box in the back of a pickup type of abused and of no interet to me. A month or so ago, a New old stock field barrel became available on gunbroker and I was able to get it for $365 shipped. Couldn't believe it and when calling the seller to arrange payment, he was dissapointed at the low price but he did keep his end of the deal.
I will keep cruising the sites for the extended sight version but the world will not stop spinning if I am not able to find one.
Regards,
Crankster
