My old Remington 700 ADL is a 6.5x55 .
Douglas 24 inch 1-8 twist barrel.. loves 160 grain bullets.
Soft shooter. Very accurate.
I put a Leupold straight six power on it.. great combination.
Who else likes the classic Swede ?

On my bucket list! Once at the range a feller saw me with my tools adjusting the scope. He asked me to help him zero his rifle. Was a Karl Gustaf Mauser in a plastic stock. 6.55 Swede. Zeroed, he put 3 in the same hole at 50 yards! I asked him where he got it, he said at a gun show In Wisconsin, feller told him it would make a fine deer rifle. I told him, not in indiana. My younger mil surp shooting buddy has one in the wooden stock, no scope, he likes original, and its a beauty. Me ,i want a CZ full stock , but it hasn't crossed my path yet. Yeah its a great shooting round.

Great cartridge. I'm a milsurper with mine. A CG M96 rifle and M38 short rifle. Plus a rare'ish Oberndorf M38. Very accurate and fun to shoot compared to 8x57 Mausers.

long time ago

Had a M38 I believe. Old military rifle I cut the barrel down, turned the bolt handle down, cut stock down and shot the devil out of it. Great rifle. Shot it until all my cases split, Norma was the only one making ammo for the 6.5x55 at the time. Then they stopped importing into the US. Sold it at a little gun shop with the dies and all my bullets I had. The fellow who bought it said he had a bunch of cases. Then 3 months latter I found out Winchester started making the ammo, then Remington started also. Have not been happy with any other deer rifle since then. Of course the largest deer I ever killed was with that rifle. Think I payed something like $59.00 for it. This was when you could buy the old German surplus rifles at Target for $19.95.

My favorite centerfire caliber.

Tikka T3 Hunter 6,5x55, used for everything that I hunt, well, medium game that is.
Oberndorf M96, Swedish Mauser (circa 1900 IIRC), mostly matching numbers, safe queen
Carl Gustaf M38, Swedish Mauser (circa 1943 IIRC), beat.to.snot., but one of my favorite range rifles.

Mine is a CZ 550 Lux that I bought used. I haven't shot anything but paper with it, but the limited time I have had with it has been a pleasure, and it has shown great promise. I'm looking forward to developing loads to this rifle and eventually taking it afield. I would love to pickup a nice milsurp someday.

When I see and hear all the fuss about modern 6.5mm cartridges, I cant help but think about how the path was made by Mauser so many years before. Same ballistics, fits in a short action. Got it.

6.5 x 55

Great round. Currently have a Winchester Mod. 70 Featherweight Classic in this cal. Has taken numerous Mule Deer, Pronghorn Antelope. Very accurate with reloads of 43 gr. Reloader 22, 140 gr. Hornady SP. Also good with Federal 140 gr. blue box ammo. Used to have several M38s, M96/38 and a Tikka T3 that a nephew talked me out of after he shot his first mule deer with it. One rifle I would not part with.

I bought mine in a CZ 550 FS, untested but its reputation is Stirling, I just own too many rifles for some of them to get a fair trial.

Neither caliber or model rifle are extremely popular in my area, ignorance on some folks part...I expect it will be a good to excellent shooter based on my experiences with CZ550's and the reputation of the cartridge.

Both 6.5x55 and 7x57 go back to 1890's and are the equal of any modern rounds in that class. There is no doubt the loyal, almost cult like, polarity of the 6.5x55 was because of the excellent Swedish Mausers. I am into the 6.5x55 pretty deep.

Gmd 150, thats the one. That i want! Shot one once, it was superb. I have a range buddy , who buys every trending gun. He shows up with the 550 FS , but i notice the scope is turned with the vertical on the left and the horizontal on the top. I ask, who put that scope on like that. Response was” I had them bore sight it at the store!” Took a while but i convinced him it was turned buy showing him the other scopes at the range.

Enjoy yours, it is very handsome!

I have the Remington 700 Classic in 6.5x55mm.

A fine rifle but made only one year as all calibers in the Classic series were.
