Simmons Whitetail Classic is back

Was casually looking around midway and noticed the WTC scope line is back, with some changes. Now some low power variables, and a fixed 4x. Top end is 6-24.

The question - are they as good of a scope now as they used to be? I'm still amazed at my WTC 6.5-20x50 16 years down the line ....

That is a good question... I have 3 of that same model as well. One of which is over 20 years old and legal to drink.

I had two Simmons fail me last year.

Simmons stepped up and replaced both NO QUESTIONS.

First was a WTC 3.5-10 maybe? Got the same scope minus the crinkle finish back in lil over a month.

Second was a 6-18 discontinued model. But was under the Aetec line. I got a brand new Aetec in the mail with apology and I do very much like the scope!! It replaced a Weaver Kaspa that was on my 223 HB Bolt gun. Very nice glass! The Kaspa was pretty good but plagued with that paper
Towel tube look when looking threw. It’s on a 22 Magnum now.

I cannot say if better or not. But they appear nice adjustments work well and both quickly and easily sited back in.

Good luck

I liked the older Philippine made WTC scopes. My guess is all the new versions are China made. Don't know if that is as good?

Do you recall what the image quality was like on the old compared to the new? I'm really really hoping....

I bought 4 when they went on Clearance... 2 Mil-Dot and 2 Std. Truplex - I have 2 left.. sold 2 rigs with them on.. wish I would pulled em'. Excellent at the time... still love them... some were smooth finish and some were pebbled/granite (mildots). IIRC the eye relief was 3".. just went on-line and looked and the reviews are decent on the new ones but the Fellas are complaining about short eye relief.. and as stated above that seems to be same same... not a big deal for me. Set them up correctly and it's a non-issue IMO.

I still love the Philippines Simmons of the early 2000's. Have 2 left, an AO 22Mag and a 4x handgun. Still have a 1999 model Prohunter 4-12AO that I haven't thrown away yet, but I put that on a new 300 mag last year while I was waiting on the scope to come in that I bought for it, and basically destroyed the Simmons in 5 shots.

In perusing the Midway ad, three things become obvious with the 6.5-20X, 50mm version:

The one they show has "granite" finish.
The price is $114.95.
The scope has been materially changed from the earlier ones, if the Midway picture is correct; it shows a side focus scope.
