Yesterday I was at the new super Wal-Mart in Penfield,N.Y. They had CCI 22mag ammo. 3 box limit. Bring your pistol permit. My wife and I each bought 3 boxes.

I've noticed most of the Wmarts around me have had the CCI .22 Mag ammo but most I've seen are FMJ. I'm hoping they start getting some of the Winchester back in. IIRC it was 2.00 bucks cheaper a box and actually shot a little better in my Marlin and Mossberg mags.

Why do you need a pistol permit for rifle ammo? This more of the post-Sandy Hook persecution of American gun culture?

I missed this. Walmart will ask if the ammo is for a handgun or long gun in NY. In all the ones I go to if you tell them "rifle or long gun" they sell it. But in some urban/city areas they want a pistol permit for 9mm, .40, or other hand guns rounds that feed the local criminal shooters. I think this is a Wmart policy, not NY. Doesn't matter to me. It stops sales to certain groups that do the shooting. Not me. I've never been denied.

The WalMarts here haven't had any .22 anything in sometime. I've just started looking for Magnum because my new Ruger 77/22M International just came in. Thanks to the Internet and this site I got some CCI stuff in just after the rifle arrived so I'm OKay for now. But will keep looking.

I found some in a local WalMat here in Virginia a week ago. They had 14 boxes of CCI WMR, 4 boxes of 40gr TMJ and 10 boxes of 36gr. I bought the four boxes of TMJ since my CZ-452 American shoots that very well. I was asked if it was for a rifle or pistol and said "pistol."

After making my purchase I ws browing other things and a guy walks up and buys all 10 boxes of the JHP.

They still had the sign about the limit on 2 boxes per person on .22LR and the sales person made a joke with me and with the guy that bought the 10 boxes of WMR about the limit being for LR and WMR was not LR. Of course they had no .22LR on the shelf at all.

p.s. My local Dick's has had Federal Target (325 per box) on the shelf for at least the last two weeks. Unfortunately I have not seen any .22WMR at Dicks in over a year.

I still haven't seen any Rimfire ammo at my local Wal-Mart for 5 years. I look every time I'm there, but no joy. Our local Atwoods has it often, so I happily go there, they have a much better selection of firearms, too.

You are right Scooter22! They asked me if it was for a handgun. Me being the nice guy that I am told them yes. I will still have my handgun permit with me, but, if they ask again, I will tell them it is for a rifle. The price was $13.47 a box.

The central Arkansas WalMarts have been asking if the ammo purchase is for a handgun or rifle for years. I tell them BOTH when buying rimfire ammo. I've had a couple of funny looks but get the ammo. We do not have to show a permit to buy ammo. I do have a permit to carry.

Not sure why you guys are hung up on the question of whether it's for a pistol or rifle....

It's simply because the register poses the question. The reason being that pistol ammo has a different age requirement by law. And is meant to remind the cashier to observe the buyers age, and if close to those age limits, they would ask for I.D. Most just ask the question as I believe they have to input something in to the register. Such as 1 for rifle, 2 for pistol for example. They always hit a key after asking.

I cleaned out my Wally!!!

Stopped by last evening, they had 5 boxes of CCI hidden back in the long gun cabinet. I bought them all.....total $72.06 OTD. These were the solid nose, not HPs.

The kid was clueless selling the ammo. When I asked for them I had to point them out. As I was walking away another guy came up looking for .300 Blackout, the kid says "show me which box you are talking about."

Sorry to butt in but I was in a urban WM today and grabbed 2 Stinger boxes @ $6 something a box. The funny part is the Manager, Angel, opened up the case and suggested Quiets is the same as the one box of SV that I wanted more of. Being this is the Magnum section of discussion, a few weeks ago,he pointed out that my CCI Maxi Mags he just handed me was .22LR.

Unhappy

My Walmart's swear to me they get good amounts of 22RF ammo weekly. I haven't been able to buy any in close to three years. IMHO there are a few people that still go in and buy all up. BULSKIT about minimums when you "know someone". HAS TO BE!!

NO WAY in all that time its not found on the shelves. Couple years back I went in all the time looking.

WM still sells at very lo prices and again IMHO this allows internet sellers to make better coin.

No big deal in last year or so as most shops will have ammo more then not.

my walmart is always full of 17HMR, and occassional 22WMR which lasts for a few days on the shelves. But a 22lr will not last 5 minutes ...
