Maybe because it's the "receiver" that Ruger actually marks the serial number on. That's not all that unusual, as Remington, Winchester and many other manufacturers mark their receivers with the serial number also.

Can you elaborate a bit on why it bothers you that Ruger has chosen the place they use to put the serial number? Neither the upper assemblies, nor the grip frames, are sold individually from Ruger anyway.

I like that it eliminates the hook attachment for upper to lower. Using shims or squeezing the frame aren't really great solutions for a loose fit, which happens to all Marks eventually.

For me, one of the fun things to do with a good 22 pistol is experiment with different barrels. I have 4 for my Buckmark, 5th in the mail. Relatively inexpensive and easy. Tow for my Victory, will get more as the aftermarket steps up.

For the Ruger, different story. Cost more (probably lots of reasons) AND I need to have it sent to an FFL, which for me is a real PIA, plus it cost more $$ again,as well. I would love to get a bull barrel for one of my Ruger/Volquartsen lowers, but won't do it bacause of this. Easier to focus on my Victory and Buckmark. Just my reasons, of course, nothing is perfect.

Pretty much what Greg just said. Lot's of people want a Volq. or TacSol upper to use on their frame, but don't want to go through the hassle of shipping to a FFL and paying fees. Serialize the frame and that solves the problem. It would appear that the MKIV frame and upper are not compatible in any way with earlier MK's except for internals, so why not serialize the frame? I'm sure more people upgrade their uppers to another brand than their frames.

I guess I really don't understand the serial number concern. If a product has issues that I don't like I buy a product that has what I want. There are pistols available that have replaceable barrels. If the Ruger design is unacceptable, buy something else.

I'm just glad that the Mark IV that I envisioned has not come to be.

Ruger Mark IV

There is a leaked picture of the new Mark IV out on a number of other forums. It will reportedly be introduced tommorow, September 23rd.

Biggest news from the photo: super easy to take down. Honorable memtion: loaded chamber indicator seems to be gone.

They are no longer selling them in Komifornia so some of the required safety stuff can be eliminated for the other free states.

I just watched Jeff Quinn testing it on Gunblast. Pretty cool.

From Ruger's own website:

http://www.ruger.com/products/markIV/overview.html

I may just get back into a Ruger again.... They listened.

Dang, that looks almost too simple. I figure fall of next year I'll decide. Blued model has aluminum frame. I was hoping for a standard 4 1/2 inch blued model. Dave
