That's firing from the prone position using my range gear bag for a rest.
Scope set around 8 power.

This is about the same accuracy I get from a few of my .22LR rifles.

I've tried the lighter bullets in my Marlin bolt action, but it strongly prefers the 40-grain bullets.

When I borrowed a friend's Savage in .17HRM, it shot considerably tighter groups, and it sounded quieter, too.

But I want to keep my .22 magnum for hunting coyotes, including taking a chest shot at 100-125 yards. That means I want a big heavy bullet to drive in deep and penetrate ribs if I hit 'em.
Have you tried any of the 50grn offerings?

I was also gonna suggest trying winchester supreme, 30 or 34gr. I get the best groups with the supreme 30gr in my marlin.

Maybe the Clorox enema has his math screwed up?

Though my Ruger 77/22 WMR may be a little less accurate than my target 1022 . When hunting my WMR shoots way flatter , so i am not lobbing bullets at 150 yards like i am with my target 22 LR . Both ,my guns love CCI mini and maxi mags , CCI is all i shoot now , and i get the 22lr at Cal Ranch for 5.99 for 100 and 22 WMR at Wal Mart for 9.95 for 50 . great prices for both . But my 1022 target is still fun and cheaper to shoot so when hunting ground squirrels i take both . 22lr for 100 yards and under . 22 wmr for over 100 yards . The clearing on the left of this road is 152 yards and hold over with a 22 lr is crazy .

boy i can't wait until spring . tons of ground squirrels/pot guts here . N. Utah .

Say Rob, when was I supposed to come over again? It was spring right?

That's a nice 10-22. Quality, but not anodized every color imaginable with thumb holes for your thumb holes.

What sort of groups are you getting with your ruger at 100 yards and it's choice ammo?

Yep -- I believe it was spring...I got the invite also...

And that's a nice range you got for yourself there, RobK!

Just reading over this thread. A number of my 22lr guns will shoot better than my 3 22wmr guns at 50yds. At 100 yds, I only have one 22lr that I can consistently shoot under an 1" at 100 yds (a modified BRNO #4 that I was told by the prior owner was used in 200yd matches at their club -- no idea what the holdover would be ). But, all 3 of my 22wmr's (I got rid of my 96/22M) can shoot consistently under 1" at 100yds with their ammo of choice. However, all 3 of my 17hmr's out shoot all of my lr's and wmr's at 50 and 100yds.

Also, at 100yds, my 17hm2's average about the same size groups as my WMR's.

I don't know much about physics, so I don't know whether its the guns, ammo or me that lead to these results...just how things work when I'm behind the trigger.

Of course, the flatter trajectory makes me a better shooter.

Smile .22 Mag Accuracy:

All of the following were shot with a Savage Stevens Favorite with iron sights in quiet air.
Remington Premier V max:100 yards: 1.12", 200 meters: 3", 300 meters:6", 400 yards 8".
Winchester Supreme 34 gr HP: 100 yards 1.4", 200 meters 2.9", 300 meters 6", 400 yards 6"- freak group?.
Winchester 40 gr HP: 100 yards 1.5", 200 meters 3.5", 300 meters 8"
CCI 40 grain HP: 100 yards 1.5", 200 meters 3.2", 300 meters 7"
Federal 50 gr. HP: 100 yards 1", 200 meters 2.5"
Hornady 30 gr. V-max 100 yards 1.5", 200 meters 3", 300 meters 6.5", 400 meters 16" mostly horizontal due to wind.
I get better average accuracy past 100 yards with my CZ Ultra Lux .22 LR and Aguila Interceptor with Williams or Mendoza receiver sights. In quiet air the Mendoza puts the Interceptor monotonously into 3.3-4.5" at 300 meters and into 7" at 400 meters- no accident. But the Federal 50 grain HP .22 WMR is more accurate 100 yards to 200 meters. I don't have a well proven cleaning regimen for the .22 WMR on the range as I do for the .22 LR Aguila Interceptor. The .22 WMR also heats the barrel a lot more, which may affect accuracy negatively. I may be shooting from a light octagonal barrel with my Favorite Model 30 GM, but I am also shooting slowly, nevertheless, it heats up much faster than my Ultra Lux. Playing with a special hand made rear elevation ramp, I found it possible to stay in a 16" black powder bull at 400 meters with all makes of .22 WMR including Fiocchi and other makes manufactured in the Phillipines. The little Favorite model 30 GM got pretty hot but did well. I found myself wondering if the MK 4 .223 would keep up with it? Someone with more experience with the Mk 4 will have to answer that one.

Can you give a quantitative description of your accuracy? IE, groups at 100 and 50 with your mag, and groups at 100 and 50 with your LR?
I re-read my post. I guess it should say My 22lr is a tackdriver small hole touching groups at 50 yards. 2 or 3 inch groups at 100.

My 22 mag is less accurate at 50 yards nickel sized groups. At 100 yards though it shoots quarter sized groups with occasional flyers , usually high.

So a 22lr is more accurate at fifty yards but a 22 mag is more accurate at 100 yards.
