A17 ammo any good?

I see where CDNN still has the A17 ammo for a decent price, and an even lower price if you buy it in a package with a Bushnell Rimfire Optics scope (3.5-10x, 40mm AO, trhee elevation turrets included). I've got that scope on a marlin 22 and I like it, was thinking about grabbing one of the scope/ammo packages for my savage 17HMR.

Is the ammo any good?

My 93R17BTVS shoots it as good as the best I've tried and it's my go-to hunting ammo for foxes.

It is just a touch faster and flatter shooting than standard Hornady 17 hmr. There is a shift in POI on the target but group size is basically the same. I donít notice the difference while hunting. Should try it on a windy day and compare.

Ran across a clearance deal where it was 16 cents per round and run it almost exclusively now. In semi autos, bolts, revolvers, break actions. When the semi auto strts to gunk up, the A17 has enough umph to keep the bolt cycling properly where the standard 17 hmr doesnít. Just clean and lube the action, then both ammos work again.

Results depend on the batch, some do better than others.
I had decent results at 200 yards off the bench

It shoots good in my two HMRs (Anschutz and Sako), but not significantly better than other versions of 17HMR. Took 3 different ammos with me prairie dog shooting and noted no difference. The CCI TNT shoots slightly and consistently better at the range, but no real difference in the field.

I agree with others, good stuff. Just as accurate in my HMR. Never put any over the chrono, but all online reviews clock it 100-150 FPS faster.

I shoot it in my NEF/H&R heavy barrel gun and it performs really well, even with the crap trigger. As good as any other.

It shoots great in my 452 Varmint. One thing I noticed with the A17 in a couple places it cost more per round if you buy the 200 round box as opposed to 50 round boxes.

Always shot good for me. It’s a little hotter than some ammo, so not recommended in some guns.
