S&W 15-22 issues

After 21,440 rounds, my S&W M&P15-22 Sport has to go back to the mothership. If they answer the phone. I've been on hold for 28 minutes.

It seems the firing pin has worn down, resulting in cronic light strikes. I grabbed these spent cases from last weekend, and am surprised they even fired. Only CCI works at this point. Even SK Match + wouldn't fire, at all. I swapped the Geissele SD-E FCG for the OEM, and it was actually worse.

It is also failing to return to battery sometimes, even freshly cleaned, but dropping the mag allows it to close. Even then it often light strikes.

Does anyone sell aftermarket firing pins or springs for these? I googled but couldn't find any. As much as I shoot this thing, I should just buy another one.

Hello sir.

Just got off the phone with a nice woman @ S&W. About to print shipping label, tape it up, and go to FedEx.

I don't see a replacement firing pin on Volquartsens website. Just an extractor.

You got the top end of firing pin life at 21k+ rounds fired. Mine have gone from 4000 to 20,000 with a mean of 16,000 on 12 broken firing pins. (4 different rifles)

As far a Volquartsen selling 15-22 firing pins, they don't. No one does except S&W.

Maybe if enough people pester Volquartsen or Tandam Kross they might start producing them.

Your right, I just checked my box of goodies. It's an extractor not a firing pin

I got a note from FedEx that they have my rifle, and it will be here Friday. I had a river trip planned for Saturday, so perfect timing.

I love that a rifle I paid $300 + tax for brand new, has a good enough warranty that they will not only fix it when I wear it out, but pay shipping both ways. Sad part is it sounds like it will be going back in a few years for the same treatment.

Excellent, have fun on the river!

As far as S&W's warranty, they do honor it. I sent in a 15-22 that had 105k rounds on it with a note that had my observation on what the rifle was doing at that high round count and a broken firing pin. S&W basically rebuilt the rifle. The replaced the upper receiver, barrel and all moving springs. (hammer, trigger, recoil) All on their dime, took couple months but they honored their "Lifetime Warranty"

Good way to keep a customer......

Wow, 105k. If mine lasts that long I'll be tickled.

S&W replaced the firing pin, firing pin spring, and recoil spring. Pretty much what I expected.

I probably should have left it stock long enough to test, but I put the stock/grip/Geissele trigger back, and the scope back on. Taking it to the river tomorrow.
