Reviews on the new 492 three inch revolver?

Hi All,

My two Taurus 94 revolvers failed with in a month of each other.
Same part broke on each of them. Looked online but none of the parts people had the part in stock.
Taurus have no replacement's for the model 94. They were a four inch & a five inch 9 shot revolvers.
They were good revolvers for the price.
Taurus has granted me two NEW replacement 3 inch revolvers as dictated in they warrantee. I see they are still a steel framed which is good in my book!

What do you fellow posters think of them?

Thanks for any input,
broom

I bought a blued model 94 for my son on his 21st birthday and I have a stainless steel model 94. Iím curious what parts broke on your model 94ís?

Everything I read on the new Taurus 492 has been positive but I donít think theyíve been out but about a year.

Hi VASCAR2,

Been a NRA instructor for years & go to the SHOT show almost every year.
Like many people, I get the American Rifleman, Shooting Times, Guns & Ammo.

Don't think I ever saw a review in any gun magazines. Looked on line after I posted here. It seems to be a nice revolver for the money, all good reports.

I should have a stainless one Wednesday or Thursday of next week.
The very capable Taurus rep. mentioned the blue version should be in stock soon & will be shipped as soon as possible.

It was called a -bolt Part 20 -at Numrick / gunparts parts diagram section on both of them.
The other had the - trigger spring center pin broken -part 34 by the failed section of the bolt bar.
A stamped flat piece with a few right angle bends & a tab. About 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 inch's long.

Thanks for the reply,
broom

Hi Sir,

No new toy today hoping for a Fri delivery!
The Fed Ex driver mentioned they were all caught up. If it does not show up tomorrow I will cry myself to sleep!

Enjoy every day,

Hello fellow Taurus revolver fans,

I'm into April now & still no word on the replacement revolvers!

Apparently the stainless 942 that I thought I was getting last month, went to another needy owner. The one month or six weeks replacement time I was quoted, was apparently just a hope on Taurus's part!
The phone rep. was helpful & understanding, but as of last week, they had no idea when the new shipment's of blue or stainless revolvers will arrive.
The good thing is I'm saving some 22 ammo!

Enjoy every day,
broom

Just took delivery of Taurus 942 (.22WMR, 3" barrel, black finish). Will get it to the range next week and see how it performs.

Hi Bluzman,

Terrific! It's good to here there are some in the pipe line, I really hope you like it!
May I ask if it was a replacement revolver or did you buy it new ?

I'm trying to get a idea how long, I will have to wait to get the revolvers.
Since the Taurus reps. don't seem to have that info.

Thanks for the reply,
broom

Hi All,

The two new Taurus 942's were delivered today ! Delivery was much longer then I expected. But they are here!

I shot the stainless revolver & the blued model today. They appears to be a nice revolver for the money. It has a adjustable rear sight that appears to work well! Nice trigger-little heavy, out of the box
It's not a S&W, but will work for my needs. I painted the front sight so it is better defined for longer ranges.

The only complaint I see so far is it has a very short grip. I have a average size & my pinky is out in space. Taurus sells a longer grip I really don't care for it's shape, wood or price at this time..
UPDATE: Ordered a Hogue rubber grip for it appears to be about 1/4 inch longer. The revolver fits my hand much better now. No one seems to made a grip shape more like a S&W or Ruger
All of the grips in the normal price range have the same basic shape.

FYI a grip for the Taurus 85,856, 605, 380, 905 will fit a 942!

Best to all,
broom
