Threw this together with a mix of parts from rtb and some stuff I had laying around. I didn’t have an mlok bipod mount or a rear bag tall enough for the full length mag so the maiden voyage was a little rough ergonomically but I’m excited about the potential. 50 yard target with a hodge podge of ammo. Eley action (one of my favorites but no longer) eley club, and sk long range are probably the most likely candidates when I go shoot some more. Is black dog the only shorter mag available? Why wouldn’t cmmg make one??

CMMG made a gray 20 (223/5.56 round size) that held fifteen rounds but they didn’t make them very long. You can use S&W 15-22 mags that are of various capacities. RTB sell a part to help stabilize the 15-22 in an r-15 mag well if your not using a Better Mag Adapter.

I’ve never used any S&W 15-22 mags with my 22 LR AR-15’s as I have numerous Black Dog Machine and CMMG mags. I have at least one 15 round CMMG mag for my dedicated 22 LR AR-15’s in case I want to shoot of the bench.

What barrel length is that?

I've used S&W short 10 round magazines almost exclusively. If you don't need a last round bolt hold open, they may work even without a shim. I've an old one I use for testing feeding on new builds, and it always feeds shimless.

The problem at the moment would be finding one.

I like using the shorter 10 and 15 round magazines from Black Dog Machine, they are the same length as the 556 20 round magazine. They work well for shooting from a rest and rear bag.

I really like the 10rd S&W mags for bench shooting. Having the bolt catch functional with the S&W + better mag adapter so the rifle operates the same as a "real" AR is important to me, but as always your mileage and or priorities may vary.

I just got some of the Black Dog 10 round mags with steel feed lips to try out, and they have a decent form factor as well.

Very Nice Build!

Whenever the "how to build an accurate AR22" question comes up, Beyer Barrels is always ONE of the solutions suggested. I'm glad to see someone else with positive experience using a Clint Beyer barrel. Good Job!
