Targets??

I hope to find time for a one day event finally. Is there a downloadable target that I could print, just to have some clue what it's like? All shot at 25 yards, isn't it?

Officially itís 25 meters, which is pretty close to 27 yards. In all practicality, it probably doesnít make any difference.

Wow thats a lotta targets to choose from. I was thinking the 10 target AQT would be used. Didn't find that on the linked list. Don't really see a course of fire anywhere, Do they use different targets throughout the day?

We use various practice targets during the day. Generally, most instruction is on 1" squares. Some shoots use a green practice target (great tool). We also have a redcoat target. If you are just looking at what the qualification test consists of, check out the target listed as "11x17-AQT-Drk.pdf". It gives the size of targets and course of fire. The values of the scoring rings on Stage 4 is a little different on the actual AQT, but the end result is the same.

A pack of AQTs and a pack or two of Redcoat targets from the Appleseed store has been a great investment for me. There are 36 targets per pack of either. You can get a lot of good practice with those, and the total cost is not that much.

Something that I and others on this forum have done also is to scan the AQT targets by stages and reproduce them in larger quantities for practice that is focused just on those stages. I print them out on my own dime. (See the Stage 4 target beside the Redcoat in the attached pic. Note: I was shooting those rows from the bottom row to the top.) You can do the same for any stage, and the 300 yd/Morgan’s Shingle combo. Depends upon what you want/need to improve.

One of the Appleseed originals (posted in the AS forum) said that he’d have his students practice on a target like this in addition to (or in lieu of) shooting 1” squares. He swore by it. Some folks think that’s sacrilege, but I’ve found it extremely helpful.

Saw the 50' targets

Are there 10 targets on the AQT? For a total of 40 shots and a possible 200? Doesn't seem right, but I can't find the COF on the Appleseed site.

Points on Stage 4 are doubled. Max score on AQT is 250 - 50 points per stages 1-3, then 100 points possible on Stage 4.

Here's the course of fire for the AQT:

- Stage 1 (top row): standing position, 1 magazine, 10 rounds, 2 minutes. 50 points max.

- Stage 2 (second row): sitting or kneeling position, 2 magazines (one with 2 rounds, one with 8 rounds), 55 seconds. Start in a standing position with an empty rifle. At the buzzer, drop from standing to the sitting or kneeling position, load your 2 round magazine, and fire 2 shots on the left target. Reload with the 8-round magazine and fire 3 more shots on the left target. Move to the right target and fire the remaining 5 rounds. 50 points max.

- Stage 3 (third row): prone position, 2 magazines (one with 2 rounds, one with 8 rounds), 65 seconds. Start in a standing position with an empty rifle. At the buzzer, drop from standing to the prone position, load your 2 round magazine, and fire 2 shots on the left target. Reload with the 8-round magazine and fire 1 more shot on the left target. Continuing to the right, fire 3 shots at the middle target and 4 shots at the right target. 50 points max.

- Stage 4 (bottom row): prone position, 1 magazine, 10 rounds, 5 minutes. Fire 2 shots at the left-most target. Continuing to the right, fire 2 shots at the left-middle target, 3 shots at the right-middle target, and 3 shots at the right-most target. All points are doubled on this stage, for 100 points max.

250 points max.
Rifleman is 210 points.
Distinguished patch is 230 (with iron sights) or 240 (with a scope).
Perfect patch is 250.
