A local club is swapping from the NRA A23 to something more challenging. The club is looking at ABRA and ARA factory targets.

The 457’s are averaging around 180 on the ABRA target though the scores could be low due to the bench’s. My crosshairs were jumping whenever adjacent shooters shot or worked their bolt.😬

One gentleman had a MTR that shot pretty good using a bipod with a pronounced forward rake and a rear roller rest.

How is that possible ? ABRA max score is 200 per target, so the max 5 target agg could only be 1000. Maybe you mean ARA, max score is 2500 on that one. A 1800 with a 457, I feel would be above average.

That’s a good idea. The clubs decision as to which target and match rules is difficult. How to be inclusive yet fair with a wide range of rifles?

Not sure ARA factory is the way to go. Every rifle had a tuner except for my 1411 and a Win 75 plus we had a couple customs.

The one thing our club likes is the Hotrod rules. Most our guys have 2 pieces rest, most of our guys have modified rifles. I really only have few with stock CZ, over 75% of them have changed barrels. I have zero unlimited shooters right

I'm still confused (easily confused) about the difference between Unlimited, and Hot Rod in that competition. I mean, concerning the rifles themselves. Like, what Mike Bush was using at the inaugural event as a Factory Hotrod. Can someone explain it to me?

Thanks,
Gerry

Unless I misunderstand it the receiver is the only difference. Factory Hot Rod must use a "factory" receiver and Unlimited can use any (custom) receiver.

edit: I forgot about the two piece rest as mentioned in the next post.

Thank goodness rules are pretty simple, Unlimited run what every 1 or 2 pieces rest legal. Factory Hotrod is 2 piece rest only, Factory rifles CZ's, remington, Anschutz, vudoo, Suhl's pretty much as long as there has been 1000 rifles made. No rules on barrels, stocks, tuners..So it makes it easy to police that division.

So; and correct me if I'm wrong, a 2500x is custom and a Vudoo is factory.

You are correct since Vudoo produces a factory rifle, Ivan said the 2500x would be legal if Jerry produced 1000 rifles.
