i love mine , i have mounted a scope and changed out the but spacers with an adjustable graco setup , but it shot fine as it came and ive always found it comfortable to shoot , it is accurate beyond my ability anymore - others shoot it better than i do , i just have to keep telling my son it will be his when i am gone - so he doesnt start thinking im missing when im not in the room ,

I use one of my 82G rifles for teaching the Boy Scouts Rifle Merit Badge.

It is perfect for that.

I waited for a long time to buy a 82G, always wanted one but kept buying other rifles. Recently my local gun store got one in from an older guy (like me) to sell on consignment. Price got down to 550$ so I bought it. The previous owner or owners didn't take the best of care as far as scratches and nicks in the metal/stock, but a respectable rifle nonetheless. No rust or anything like that.
I may have a professional refinish the stock, I think the little gun deserves it. My first range trip was a bit of a disappointment. The trigger was still set at about 4 lbs and I was getting these weird groups at 50 yards. When I came back home and read on here about the first and second shot "Flyer".
I set the trigger at about 1-1/2 lbs and went back to the range last Sunday. I fired to sight'er shots then put in some Lapua Midas +. Got a 50 yard group about .150" very pleased.

Keep in mind, most of the CMP rifles had the IDIOT razor knife cut from someone who cut the bags open to do inventory.

For the price, they are gems and they are a piece of military training history, even though very few were used.

I finally took my new 82G to the range. Adjusted the trigger down to 7oz put a 6x18 scope on it . Didn't do anything with stock as far as shimming. The gun shoots fantastic with rws rifle match. It shoots hole for hole at 25 yds and a little under 1/2 inch at 50 yds .

Went back to the range again Sunday Oct 13th, Kimber 82G shot even better than the week before. Rifle likes RWS R-100 and Lapua Midas +. Next trip I'll try Eley Tenex.

Yes, that was a very interesting article and extremely well written.
I've never read why Kimber sold out and closed it's doors in Oregon, does anyone know?

Everything you wanted to know about Kimber 82G potential . . .

To the OP:

Block out some time, like a week or so, and do a search for posts by user "kseatm".

A week, seriously !!! It would take months to read everything Kenny posted and that just about the 82Gs. All good information though.

It's because I type slow And I get bored picking flowers...so I ramble on the internet.

To the OP, I think mine's pretty decent. Just look through the forum, lots of info available. If you want more indepth info, shoot me a pm. Might take a few days for me to remember to check but I will get back to you.

Hey Bob! Hope things are going well for you and yours. I don't get on here much anymore. Haven't shot a gun but once since May. Now am getting set up for retirement and trying to get my youngest though college. After that, travel with my wife.

Still want to play with a couple of guns, but sold my bench rifles and gave most of my factory guns away. Will keep the Kimber as I want to concentrate on some position shooting in the future when I get a chance. Just don't feel the need to go back into the high end Anschutz game again so it's Ms Chunky for me!

It's funny to see people still finding out what neat little rifles these G's can be! Good for them! People are sending me pms about things to do to these guns...glad none of them have met me. Don't think they'd pay much attention otherwise

Take care

Kenny

Lucky me, my youngest graduated with her Masters a couple years ago, I've been medically retired since 1999. Lucky you, your wife is tolerant of "that other woman" in your life, even if she is a rifle.
Best to you and yours.
