That has me scratching my head if you're shooting em in the right spot in their noggins. They should be DRT.

Anyone ever cut the plastic tips off the bullets? Maybe then it wouldnt expand and it would penetrate more. Like a FMJ? I dont know just thinking out loud haha.

Hunting dam-builders isn't something I've ever done.
Do they require long distance daylight accuracy or can you hunt at night?
At short range the 22wmr fmj will punch through that skull.

No 17wsm fmj or jsp available at this time.

Actually I pulled the tips out entirely, didn't nip em off.

i would really like to see a pic of the bullet wound only going as deep as the skull. intact, pieces or tiny frgments they are still going 2000 fps. my 22/250 turns to dust when it hits an egg but those bullets still punch thru 3/8'' steel plate.

Are you using the CCI Gamepoints? I use them on Jacks, Cottontails and Sod Poodles. They work great for me.

Something about this just doesn't seem quite right to me.

I'll admit I am no beaver expert by any means, but a beavers head isn't all that big and I can't imagine they have some kind of exceptionally thick skull, so it just doesn't seem very reasonable, at least to me, that just about any head shot on a beaver with a 17 WSM wouldn't be lethal. Unless, the shot was off its mark and was maybe just a graze, in which case that would be on the shooter, not necessarily a bullet issue.

I've had shots that just barely grazed the head of sage rats before and watched them run in circles like they were having some kind of LSD freakout episode, but that wasn't the fault of the bullets construction.
