I am working on my son in laws Model 12c.It wouldnt hit the rim hard enough to fire the cartridge, only about 2 out of 10 would fire,I thought it was the firing pin, so I put a new firing pin in and it is the same as the old one, is there anyway I can adjust the block to close tighter to fire the shell, when I pull the trigger I can see some of the energy closing the bolt, any help would be appreciated. thanks

Is the shell seating fully in the chamber. If the gun has been dry fired and peened the chamber it will keep the shell from seating properly. Look for scratched casings on shells that missfired from the displaced metal. You might need a chamber iron.

First thing to do is to make sure it is clean an properly lubed. Rifles that old can have years and years of accumulated hardened oil which might limit firing pin travel. Two other possibilities--weak strike from the hammer or damaged (shortened) firing pin.

gun is clean with a new firing pin, how would I know if the hammer strike is weak, it seems heavy enough?

Well, I can't help you there -- maybe swap out the hammer spring?

Need to insure the chamber isn't burred as E1957T posted---that the cartridge seats fully, with the rim on the chamber "wall"
