Simple but stupid question

I recently picked up a Volquartsen Scorpion. I've never had any experience with a Ruger/Ruger-style rimfire pistol. Took it apart tonight and I had a hell of a time getting it back together. Volquartsen includes zero instructions on this in the manual. Their online video didn't help me. Finally I found a video someone put together on Youtube reassembling their Mark II; he explained it much better and I was able to get it back together and seemingly operational.

However, there is just one thing I want to verify is normal. With the hammer in the cocked position, if I pull back on the bolt, it feels like sort of a two-stage pull. It comes back about half way nice and easy, then I hit some resistance, apply just a little more force and the bolt will retract the rest of the way. I haven't had the gun long enough to remember if that's normal or not.

So my question is, is that normal? Or did I screw something up when I was trying to reassemble?

Thanks

That is normal. The different resistance is the bolt contacting the hammer face and riding over it, just like it does when you shoot it.

I love it when people ask "simple but stupid questions". Mostly because I often have the same question, and I can hide behind them rather than asking the question myself . . . .

Now I have a "stupid question"... is the Volquartsen Scorpion made by Ruger? I have several Rugers and keep hearing the name Volquartsen but don`t know anything about them. Thanks

Nope

Volquartsen is an aftermarket parts manufacturer of parts for many firearms. There best product is their sear which transforms the stock trigger pull from aprox. 4.5 lbs. to 2.5. It is probably the best single enhancement you can due to any Mk.

He's correct there. My MKIII 22/45 breaks at 1.5lbs with the full Volquartsen trigger kit. I swapped out to the factory hammer last weekend and did a pull test just for the heck of it. Still 1.5lbs. The sear is the heart of it.

Do they have some affiliation with Ruger? The pistol I picked up is supposedly 100% Volquartsen-made, and yet it's basically a hot rodded Ruger? I assume they have some sort of deal going or they'd be violating patents and such?
