Is anyone using a factory 10/22 barrel relined to 17hm2?

If so how does it shoot?
Where did you get it relined?
What did it cost?

thanks

Is this even a viable option? The gunsmithing costs must exceed the cost of a new barrel (?). With so many after market choices why not just by a barrel? But be sure to do something to increase the mass of the bolt and the srength of the bolt return spring. Don't just change the barrel and not do the rest or the receiver and you may be hurt by the sharper pressure curve of 17 HM2 ammo.

Sorry, I should have been more detailed in my previous post
I want to do the 17hm2 conversion and now that Bronnells is
carrying the heavy bolt handle for 49.99 it looks like a new option.

I like the looks of the stock barrel. I was thinking that It would be
a bit of a "sleeper" or "super stocker". and impress those at the range
who thought "Oh, there is a stock 10/22 trying to shoot at 100 yards.

Just a thought, I can always get the Eabco kit but its obvious mods
have been done.

If you can wait a little while longer I think GM will be selling a Sporter weight factory contour in17HM2 for the 77/77 and 96/22 soon. I'm waiting on one for myself.

Barrel relining

I have relined several 22 barrels to .17 HM-2, and .17HMR for myself. I use custom reamers from Dave Kiff @ Pacific Tool. The pilot for liners is .166 where the pilot for .17 caliber barrels is normally .168 in diameter. This will sound a lot simpler than it is, but it is just a matter of drilling out the barrel to just over 5/16". Glue the liner in with something like J B Weld, return the crown. Chamber it, and recut the extractor cuts. I have a lathe and mill, but have a friend that has relined a few with hand tools and got results equal to quality factory barrels. We have both been relining old rifles and handguns for years for our personal use. The Redman liners are great if put in right. I like the 1 in 10" twist better with the liners, but it is like the old "Ford or Chevy" debate, ask several people that shoot 17"s and you will get different answers to what is the best twist. Green Mountain makes a great 17 caliber barrel, and I have used well over a dozen of their blanks. The option one of the other guys gave about waiting for one from them may be your best bet if you are paying a Smith to do everything. Good luck, The Ol Redneck.

You're right about paying a smith vs waiting. local smith wants 200.00 to reline
a stock barrel. Thats why I posted here. I wanted to see if there were any
RFC folks with a better deal. I know I can get an eabco setup for 160.00
but I think it would be cool if it looked stock and spit out tiny one hole groups.
